Stereotypes seem like a prejudice of the past, but there is one that still plaguing today's society: Car dealerships are slimy and dishonest. I learned this the hard way first hand.

I recently puchased a used 1998 Honda Civic EX, from AutoWest Honda of AutoNation, and fell victim to their "payment packing" and almost every other scam there is. I fell for them all, not realizing that for a $13,000 car with $8,000 for down payment I would eventually be financing $11,000!

In the time period of a little over a month, I have fought with this dealership numerous times. I gave them a check to deposit in 5 days which they cashed early, almost costing me my job! I was sold so many add-ons, that knowingly I would have never agreed to. I could bet that they "packed" every warranty and extra option they possibly offered! I also know that I was a sitting duck & an easy target, considering that I am only an 18 year old female and did this entirely on my own. (Which has been a GREAT first experience & life lesson for me!)

Because I live in the State of California, and there is a law that prohibits a "cooling off period", I cannot (though I desperately want to) tell them to take this car and stick it where they want to!!!!

I know that AutoNation has a pending class action lawsuit, but other then this case, is there any other reported cases against AutoNation? I know what AutoWest Honda of Fremont did to me was unethical, but was it illegal and should I take action? Also, any suggestions or comments would be grately appreciated. Thank you very much.
