Window sticker deception at Camelback Toyota dealer.
On the night of Jan, 20, 2001 I went to a local Toyota car dealer in Phoenix. Looking at a 2001 Seqouia SUV. The car maker's window sticker says the price is $44,700. Sounds kinda high to me I say to myself. Looking at the SUV, I see that the car dealer Camelback Toyota feels that $44,700 is not enough money. So the Car dealer puts a A.D.M. on it "Additional Dealer Mark-up" sticker on it.

THE A.D.M. STICKER.

On this crappie sticker known as the A.D.M. it raises the price to $47,378 They say you will get what they call "Signature Finish protectorant" for $1179.00. Exact spelling the way they have it on their sticker

"PROTECTORANT" Checking my Franklin Spelling ACE and checking my Microsoft spell checker there is NO SUCH WORD.

Their second charge is what they call their "Auto Appearance Package" for $1499.00 For the life of me, I can't understand why a car maker
would let a car dealer put this kind of deception on what they make.

Think of this...
When buying a new car you do not have to pay MSRP Better know as the full sticker price much less paying OVER STICKER. Any new car dealer will sell it way below the sticker. Say $100 over Invoice. All this is, is a way to think you are getting more extras added to your car. Please understand you never need to buy any Paint protectant from the new car dealer on a new car.

A.D.M. - The Reality

A.D.M. or Additional Dealer Markup was a gift from our previous Gov. Ev Mecham who used it first on some spiffy Pontiacs back when he was only small time (a car dealer).

Although eventually you can purchase most vehicles below the M.S.R.P. (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price), it is still only the manufacturer's suggestion. Ev's idea, which is still used today, was based on simple supply and demand. When demand exceeds supply, price goes up.

For a new vehicle model, and especially a 'desireable' one - such as the Sequoia, or for Ev in 1984 the MSE Edition Firebird, there is a brief period where the demand is so much greater than the supply that the dealer can and WILL sell the vehicle for MORE than the factory suggests.

The key here is that NO ONE HAS TO PAY A.D.M. - but if you want that new model NOW, you may have to pay more for it. Next year, when there are more out there, when the initial craze for the new model settles down, well, then you probably could negotiate yourself a deal below M.S.R.P.

However, if you are one of those that just can't wait, pay the A.D.M. and brag to your friends how much more you had to pay just to be the first on your block with that shiny new buggy.
