I called desert Toyota and made arrangements to purchase a vehicle from them as I was returning the truck to Findlay. The sales manager agreed to work out some numbers and call me back when he had them down. At aproximately 2 pm, the finance manager, or assistant, called me and asked if I would be coming down to sign the new contract. I told him in no uncertain terms that I would not do so, I also informed him that I would be returning the truck as soon as I got off work. I also told him that I had made arrangements to purchase a vehicle from another dealer. After trying to persuade me, unsuccessfully, to sign he said ok and he would notify sales that I would return the truck.
Desert Toyota was unable to come up with a used vehicle suitable and a new vehicle was simply out of my price range. My next call was to Fairway Chevrolet. They gave me precisely the information on the trucks they had on lot and I told them I would see them after leaving work. When I got there I found a very nice truck, low miles and in excellent condition. I bought the truck on the spot. The salesman was kind enough to follow me to the Findlay lot so I could return their truck.
As I walked in the door I was greeted by a young lady on the saleteam that also reconised me. When she asked if I was there to sign the contract I told her no, Im returning the truck. She in turn got the finance assistant. When I handed him the key he told me NO! the truck is yours, we will not take it back. He then went on to inform me that he had pushed the contract through and it was binding, after I informed him I was bringing the truck back, and after I informed him I was purchasing from another dealer. Since it was late at night and they refused to call a manager or the owner I opted to take it up the following morning.
The following morning i received a call from the salesman saying that they had refused to take the truck back. I asked him if anyone had informed the owner of the situation and he told me that the manager did and the owners responce was too bad, its his truck. Well, I decided to call the owner, his name is RICH, and ask him to take it back. When I got him on the phone he said he was not informed by any member of his team about this situation. he also stated that he NEVER takes a vehicle back and I was stuck.
I explained to him that in the event he did not take the vehicle and refund my deposit I would first call Contact 13, if that did not resolve the issue I would seek legal advise. He was livid and told me he didnt appreciate threats from me, to which I explained they were promises, that I would keep. I can only imagine how the walls shook in his office when he slammed down the phone. At 3:30 I received a call stating that he agreed to take the vehicle back. I took it to the lot, handed the keys to the sales manager and he inspected it for damages. Get this, during the time I had the truck I actually had the windows tinted, bought new floor mats, and a dash cover. 150 out of my pocket, the mats and dash cover i kept, but they dont match the new truck...wanna buy them?
