On April 25th we purchased a 2000 Mercury Cougar from Hendrick Honda. We purchased the vehicle at $7000 over market value and had to put down $3000 dollars down payment. (Total Rip off artist). We were told that this is the only way to reestablish our credit.

On Saturday June 28, 2003 our car broke down. Did not start

We called Hendrick Honda and they told us not to call them call the Mercury manufacturer. The manufactuer had a tow truck to come out and tow us to their dealership (Malloy Lincoln Mercury) When the tow truck arrived he proceeded to start the car and the car started. (Approximately 2 hours later). My husband decided to drive it back to the house.

Sunday June 29, 2003 I drove the car to church and after church I tried to start the car it would not start again, I waited 10 min. and the car started and I drove it to Malloy Lincoln Mercury, Woodbridge, VA and left it for repair. Monday morning, the service department called me a day later and said that it needed a new battery and needed a transmission flush, front rotors and brakes and we paid $695.00. We picked the car up on Tuesday July 1, 2003.

On Thursday July 3, 2003 I headed out to work for an early morning meeting and was unable to attend. The car did not start again. I called Malloy and they scheduled a pick up. The mechanic called and said that we needed a starter wire and the part would be delivered (not in stock), as soon as the part is delivered they will repair the car.

As of Saturday July 5, 2003 our car was not ready. I am very frustrated and did not prepare for such an expense especially when I was sold a vehicle that was maintenance before it was sold to me.

I would like to be reimbursed for these expenses since Hendrick Honda told us that the car was maintenance before it was sold to us. I should not have replaced the rotors plus brakes nor have the transmission flushed during this timeframe.

Total Loss of Money,
Leonard & La Verne

Leonard and Laverne:
Per your post the Mercury dealer "said that it needed a new battery and needed a transmission flush, front rotors and brakes and we paid $695.00.

These are indeed strange service procedures to correct a complaint of a car that "won't start". Battery? Maybe. Transmmission flush?...not hardly. Front rotors and pads?...ludicrous!

Must have been a slow day in their service department. Another example of how a person can (and quite often does) get hosed entering any door in a new car dealership. Front door-sales? I think the Honda dealer got you there. Service entrance?....now we move on to the Mercury dealer.

Sadly, this style of conducting business seems the norm for most new car dealers. Car dealers in general (new and used)seem most willing and eager to bring out their bag of $hitty tricks when dealing with people with "bruised credit".
A car dealer "helping someone"?

Yeah...when pigs fly.
