American Shoppers Draw - Trench Sends letter saying you are a winner and you must cash check and send taxes back. Winnipeg Manitoba

We recieved a letter in the mail from American shoppers draw saying we were 3rd category winners of a portion of $1,000,000 dollars.The total winnings was suposed to be $42,000 US and a check was with the letter that was issued in our name.The check was from a company called Trench from the Royal Bank of Canada for $2,950.00 US and this was to cover International Clearance fee of $2,350.00.The letter said to keep the certificate confidential and to contact our claim attorney Barrister Julia Wilson and Kelvin Clark and the could be reached at 1-905-616-0650 or monitoringunit@yahoo.ca.The attorney's will organize the processing and remittance of the prize money to a destination of our choice. The director of Promotions name was suposed to be Kennedy Mclaughlin and the draw occured on aug 27, 2008 and we had till sept 12, 2008 to make a claim.The check looked real it had water marks and red and blue fibers in the paper but no address for the company in the corner of the check which was called Trench.So I called the Royal Bank of Canada and gave the routing number and it turned out to be wrong, I knew it was a scam from the beginning nothing is free,I never called the "attorney" so they got nothing from me so anyone getting a similar letter watch out if it seems to good to be true it probably isn't.
