Bank of America declined my credit card with a credit line of $ 5,500 when I tried to use it to pay a contractor. The contractor spent about half an hour talking to them over his cell phone then he let me talk to them: they would not tell me why. Finally I had to use my Bank One Credit Card.

The next day I went to the bank and they would not be able to tell me either. They had to call a special department which explained that the reason was that I had used the card previously for an Internet order. This raised red flags because I live in Arizona and I had ordered toner for $ 30 from New York. What made things worse in my case was that I had also used my credit card on a trip from Arizona to New Mexico at different gas stations.

Remember: if you use BoA's credit card, don't use it for anything that goes beyond the borders of your hometown otherwise you make yourself suspicious and the next time you won't be able to use the card. I can't believe that this happens in the 3rd millenium, but obviously this is normal for Bank of America.

Bank of America fraud prevention

Has anybody ever heard of credit card fraud? Unfortunately, it happens in the 3rd millenium.

What Bank of America was trying to do is protect YOU from any unauthorized charges on your credit card. I don't think you would of been too happy if the bank had allowed a crook to max out your card, so you should be happy that they are looking out for you, the customer.

The next time you plan on traveling, all you have to do is inform Bank of America, either by phone, person, or online banking, that you will be traveling and they will happily note it on you account.

Do you work for BoA, Andrea ?

That's exactly the nonsense they want us to believe. First: Fraudulent credit card transactions can be disputed, the credit card owner is not responsible if someone who is not authorized uses it.

Second: A credit card should offer the owner freedom, calling the credit card each time when I want to order toner for $ 30 from New York over the internet or buy gas outside my hometown is not freedom for me. This requirement also seems to be something that BoA feels embarrassed to tell their customers in writing. It is not printed anywhere because prospective customers would laugh about it.

Third: I have credit cards from 4 other companies and I never had such an experience with them.

But the bank IS. This is why they flag accounts.
