rhonda,if you never had this credit card, used this card or signed up for this credit card. they cannot do that i would advise you to contact you attorney general, are they listed on credit report before you filed your claim ? call 1-877-487-5620 ask rep for a copy's of all statements purchase history, payment history, ask for address listed on file. if payments were made on the account ask rep how payments were made if by check or money order the name on check account the address on check. ask the phone number listed on the account when account was activated & from what phone number was the account activated. this could be a case of idenity theft/fraud if so get an affidavit of fraud send it to them & they will clear the balance save copies of affidavit send to trustee, all 3 credit bureas & contact your police station it will be cleared. if they can prove that you made charges or accepted the terms and agreements of account, there is nothing you can do. they can filed a claim even if you filed bankruptcy 13 or 7 if you do not include them on petition.

They put a credit card that we reported in our file under their name not the original credit card company. Because we have never paid a dime to this company the whole time we had the credit card.
They still say we owe $700 more then on our last statement from the company but aren't able to do anything about that.
So whoever has Merrick Bank watch your statements closely.
They do take advantage of you.
Just be careful.

let me guess you had an account with Next Card or Nationwide one of the companies that they brought or took over and raised all fee's raised the intrest rate to 35% claiming they sent letters to everyone advising them of the conversion with an opportunity to opt out of account being convert to Merrick Bank when Merrick Bank took over these people's account there interest rate increased to 35% late fee & overlimit fee's increased to $35 , and majority of the card features stopped like credit insurance. I am really not sure what you can do,i do know that if an account charges off it cannot be charged off twice that is illegal , and the reprt goes from date of last transaction merrick Bank converted your account as a balance transfer they have a loop hole because that is considered a transaction. have someone investigate this i have talked with alot of cardholders who said that there was already charged off , and merrick took over acct & started charging more fee's i believe it because i was talking to people who have not paid in over 8 mnths and account was only listing 90 days delinquent. they are a big rip off i would not recommend that credit card to my worst enemy. there has to be something you can do if transactions were with them, and you included previous company on claim. did merrick bank report to credit burea in september or october 2002. if so and they did the conversion as a balance transfer to a new account they could say your claim towards them was fraudulent because accoount was just opened and no payments were made. that company is ran by a very rich & clever man who owns 3 of the same companies under 3 different names (for tax purposes).
call an attny, & attny general. good luck !!!

No, it wasn't a Nexcard and no we didn't get anything in the mail about them taking over FCNB-Newport News credit card.
We have never had any correspondence with Merrick Bank at any time.
How can they take over a credit card company without sending anything to the customers telling them they were taken over by their company?
