Reported By

Watertown, New York

When I called to find out what the debts were about, they could not provide me with the answers. They did not know why it was sent to them. They were very rude when I called twice in an hour to find out what the acct was about, hoping to get a person without a thick accent. Wanted to know why I was calling so close together and were basically rude. They did not know how I could contact the original collector or what the account number was with them. I am questioning the validity of this debt.

Take a deep breath and think about it.

Have you screwed anyone out of money? Ever skipped on a bill with your name anywhere on the paperwork, for any reason? If Allied won't give you the information, just call whoever you think would be after you for bouncing a check or otherwise ripping them off. If you can't think of anyone then it is probrably an invalid debt and you needn't worry about it. Knowing the dollar amount should give you a clue. If it is a valid debt, then you still owe on it no matter what accent the callers have and you need to either pay it (easiest remedy) or go into "deadbeat mode" (lots of work). Screening your calls, hiding out, buying things using other peoples' names, paying cash for everything, etc.

Dispute if you're unsure

Maranda:

Mark is full of it. You don't have to guess what Allied is trying to collect. The FDCPA states that collectors (upon written request from you) have to obtain proof of the alleged debt from the original creditor, then mail it to you.

Type up a letter to Allied Interstate stating that you dispute the validity of the debt. Ask that they obtain validation from the original creditor and forward to your attention.

They must then do so within 30 days.

In the meantime, search the web for the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and become very familiar with it. It is the gold standard that every collector must live by. Also take the time to read section 623 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (which provides guidelines on how collectors must repsond to credit report disputes), as well as New York Debt Collection Laws.

Know your rights and the collector's responsibilities. That way you know when they're being violated.

Bud Says...

This company is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. Sloppy record keeping, failure to validate at every level, under-trained, uneducated collectors SEVERELY lacking in Fair Debt Collection Practices Act training.

Intellirisk must be making BIG bucks in collecting because they sure don't spend it to insure they comply with the laws. Student loans with these idiots is a nightmare. Most Allied collector's don't have a clue in handling even the most basic of consumer complaints. Loans that have been paid, in the wrong names and outdated credit bureau reporting are fast targets for lawsuits because Allied is unable or unwilling to respond.

If you receive a collection notice from Allied DISPUTE IT! Even though you will never receive a reply, it is important that you use the law to your advantage. Allied aptly fits the saying; "the right hand hasn't a clue what the left hand is doing" Brain-Dead! Idiots! Untrained!

May I state again....THANK GOD FOR THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT!! Someone in Washington must have had a dream about companies like Allied to enact the law. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

WATCH YOUR WALLET, YOUR CHECKBOOK AND YOUR CREDIT CARDS WHEN DEALING WITH THESE SLIPPERY CONS OF THE COLLECTION WORLD, THEY WILL EMPTY YOU OUT!

Hope this sheds some light on these punks.
