So I'm just one of the many who have been screwed by the illegial debt collection activities from companies like Asset Acceptance Corp of Warren, Michigan. I lost my job almost seven years ago and went deliquent on two credit cards. They have both been sold to Asset Acceptance who has then "RE-AGED" them to appear as NEW debts on my credit report.
This is illegial. It violates the Fair Debt Collection Act and has touched so many people it isn't funny. If this company has done this to you, it's time to fight back!
Many states are investigating Asset Acceptance Corp and there are many lawyers looking into Class Action suits against them.
I found a report about an employee who was fired for blowing the whistle on Asset Acceptance's tactics.
His attorney is taking names for support of his client's claim and a potential class action suit.
Also, contact the FTC (https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01) and file a complaint there.
Don't forget to call your State Attorney General and report what companies like Asset Acceptance are doing.
There are laws out there to protect us. The Class Action suit would not be to make us all money. It would be to make unscrupulous companies like Asset Acceptance comply with the laws.
As individuals, we're fighting the tide, but if we join together, we can change things.
Old debt is just that. It should be reported correctly and
