The initial call was from phone number: 312-470-2620 to my mobile phone. A message was left on my voicemail with a lady's voice instructing that, "It's important for you to contact Ken Hughes at 888-249-1037. This is not a sales call. Again, it is important that you call Ken Hughes at 888-249-1037."
I did not return the call right away, since I'm right in the middle of finals week at school. Another call was made again, with the same message, this time, coming from the 888 number. I went online for the reverse phone number search for both numbers and neither came up. I will be out of the country for a while, so I called up to make sure if it's something I really needed to handle. I reached yet another voice message saying something, "you've reached MCG" and that they're really busy and leave name and number.
I didn't leave my name, didn't seem right. But since they called, they must have the number. I'd left a message with my number basically saying it's absurd to leave a message for me to leave my name when all I have are initials to a company's name. I left my phone number and if someone wants to get information, they won't, but can have a live person call me or stop the automated calls. If it's a scam, don't bother to call back.
While leaving the above-mentioned message, I started looking up MCG and Ken Hughes in IL, recognizing that 312 is Chicago area code. Found a link to this site...and here's my intial report. I've skimmed through the responses, made sure to instruct all family members my phone is on a scam list and not give out any information or pay any bills / collections on behalf while I'm away, and changed my mobile phone greeting to not include my name and left just my phone number.
Thanks much for everyone keeping posted. I've had some trouble with credit in my late teens and early twenties and have been rebuilding and everything should be completely paid off or closed now. But seems most everyone who posted fits the same description as well. All my bills are now paid on time, I quit my job and returned to school. I have no money. I REALLY don't need this.
I hope I don't need to post again to update, which means this requires further action...
