Labtec Computer Speakers, Think Twice

Christmas 1997 I purchased Speakers for my son's computer. They were Labtec speakers costing around $100.00. I purchased the Labtec brand thinking it was a quality product. The speakers produced a low level hum from day 1. It was not totaly objectionable so we let it go for most of a year. Close to Chrismas 98 the right speaker distorted badly. We called Labtec Technical Support and complained about the problem. Labtec replaced the speakers without a problem. The new speakers were of a better quality (LCS-1224) we were happy. The problem is the replacement speakers are now after 10 months distorting on the right side. I again called Labtec Technical Support and they advise my warranty coverage has ended because it is calculated from the purchase of the first set of speakers. They did offer a 15% discount on a new set of speakers but I'd have to pay shipping and handleing.

I think this is terrible. I purchased these speakers thinking my son would get at least a few years use out of them. I thought Labtec was a product of good quality. I think the warranty period should cover the replacement speakers from the day we received them.

Labtec build it better or don't build it at all.
