Consumers Beware: You may actually benefit from the Chase Payment Protector Plan. Being an employee for the Chase Payment Protector Plan I do have a few suggestions for the typical consumer. Hopefully this will help most of you to stop calling the associates with the same problems. "I never asked for this"
"never authorized this" Is something that us employees hear on an average of 60-70 times a day. and with about 99% confidence I can say that there is no way that chase would ever intentionally enrol
someone into the PPP (payment protector plan) without some sort of authorization before hand. It does not take a genious to figure out how this happens. 1st off why would a VERY large and VERY wealthy company try to enroll you into a plan without you giving permission. That would just cause legal problems... so of course... you did... one way or another KNOWING or not you enrolled into the program. Just because you don't remember does not mean it's invalid. and even if they did do so. Chase probably has 50 of the highest paid most experieced lawyers to back them up. So unless you are willing to lose your house just to pay for lawyers fees my suggestion is to let the "slam" slide. Keep in mind they also send you an information package in the mail which confirms your in the program. If they were siging people up without consent.... Why would they send an info package TELLING YOU ABOUT IT? anyhoo... that's just a little blurb that no matter what you think you enrolled one way or another and there's nothing you can do about that fact. HOWEVER here is where I will help you out. Calling and screaming at the PPP employees will not get you any further, asking for a supervisor is just waisting your time. Your best hope is to be kind, polite, and request a refund. Our associates have the ability to give you up to 2 months COURTESY refund if they wish. Technically you owe chase all the charges. But a bad poker hand played right can have you comming out a winner. Don't waste your time with POE's.... (proof of enrolment's) they waste 4-6 weeks of your time... just to find out that it was ligit and you will not be getting a refund. and believe me... we have all the records... Phone calls, signatures, boxes checked off, tabs ripped off and mailed in, original card applications, checks that were cashed. it's all included in this fabulous deal. Now something you might also wanna consider doing is using something that you have been paying for... considering you have paid for it... why not just ask to use a benefit and then cancel. at least you wont lose all your money. anyhow. if you have some specific questions on this subject please post back and i'll try to respond.

A large corporation would never intentionally do anything to cause legal problems? Have you heard of the Prudential Life Insurance scam, or Enron? Chase is going through a lot of changes, and mistakes do happen. So you assume a customer is lying when they say they never enrolled?
As far as these protection plans, they are a ripoff. First, they charge anywhere from 1-5% of the balance (depending on card). I do not know what Chase charges, but lets assume 1%. Second, they only make the minimum payment. Third, they freeze your card so if you have an emergency you are screwed. If you simply have a $3200 balance for example, that results in a monthly premium of $32. You can buy a disability plan that will pay you 66% of your income for this kind of money. They are a rip-off and a scam.

I just did a followup to the Chase Payment Protector plan, the young lady was Jennifer. At about 9:08 today she told me that on 3/18/05 it had been decided I would be given all my money back. I had called them on that date as that is the date my credit card bill posts. She said that I should expect a letter shortly to confirm this.
I requested an immediate email but she could not do that. I will immediately post this as an update it this actually occurs. I have been promised a lot in the past without any results. About 6 weeks ago I was told that an immediate $95 was being posted to my account and it would be available on 3/18. On 3/18 I was told there was a mistake and it could not longer occur.
Not sure why the person that day authorized the entire amount refuned. Why did he not tell me at that moment? I have accused these people of essentially being idiots, so I feel obligated to update when they do it correct. After and if I get my money back, and cancel this card, I plan to send a note to CEO of Chase asking him if this is what others get from Chase and what it wants. There stock has done real well lately so he might not care. I think he will.

Today I got a letter from Chase, dated March 23. My last conversation with Jennifer from Chase said that I would be getting all the money that I sent into the Chase Protector Plan back. The letter today stated that on my NEXT statement I would be getting 1 month of Plan's payment. It had a name of E Britto on it.
My understanding is Britto works for Chase. Tbe Payment Protector Plan people are in a different office.
In my last update, Jennifer of the Protector Plan said all my money would be coming back. In the previous conversatio with a supervior, I was told that 98 dollars would be coming back.
In neither case did this occur. I will not call back the Protector plan people and see what is up. This started in early Oct. 2004. I can only imagine with the difficulty getting them to follow thru, what would happen if you lost a card and attempted to get the charges off your card. I have not experience with that, but they do not seem to have much skill getting the job done. Acually, they hae sucessfully isolated the protector plan from Bank which means you will not get money paid into protector plan in any fast manner. I have a engineering degree and know how the world works.
What if you had little education or age. It looks to me that these people would eat you for lunch. It should be noted that I requested they show me when I signed up.
THey said I never signed up and the protector plan was a mistake. THey just will not give me my money back. I plan to file info with the NC Attorney Gen., Consumers Report, Later, thanks for listening.

Chase sends checks which cause you to enroll in one of their programs automatically if you cash them. Usually, the first month of the program is free, or if you cancel in the first month you can get a refund for the first month's service charge. So for some free money, you can:
1. Deposit the check. Keep the paperwork that came with it.
2. Wait a couple of weeks.
3. Call and cancel your membership.
4. Wait a couple more weeks for written confirmation of your cancelation to arrive.
5. If you don't get the written confirmation, call and cancel again.
The last two steps are necessary because on at least one occasion I've been told that my membership was canceled when in fact it wasn't.
I've done this numerous times. They keep sending me the checks, and I keep cashing them. I recently sent them a letter complaining about the time when they *didn't* cancel after telling me that they had done so.
While I was at it, I pointed out to them in no uncertain terms that as long as they were going to keep sending me free money, I was going to keep taking it, so if they didn't want to keep doing that, they might want to put me on the list of people who don't receive these promotions.
You might want to do the same thing if you don't want to deal with these checks... Call them and tell them to put you on the list of accounts which are never sent promotions involving "cash this to enroll in the program" checks.

So... After a long absence from this site I decided to check back with all the updates... although few have been posted, I've decided to provide an update.
I am an x-employee of the Payment Protector Plan. Not to be confused with a direct employee of Chase Bank. Payment Protector Plan is a sub-contracted plan OFFERED by chase to all it's customers. When you call 1-888-314-4371 (toll free number for PPP) there is a good chance you will be speaking with someone in CANADA. Yes indeed folks you heard it right. Canadians are dealing with Americans money.
Like it or not, Chase has decided that our demeanor is what they want. It ceases to amaze me at how ignorant, people can be of a product they have. I will be the first to say that chase has a very sneaky way of enroling into this program. But instead of whining about it... Learn about it... abuse the system and STICK IT TO THE MAN. With some light reading it's very easy to right the wrong. Example: HUGE TIP.... by company policy it is required for us (after verification of personal information) to carry out customers requests.
My job was retention. Basically ask why a customer wasn't interested in the program and make sure they knew what they were canceling. Wake up call... We aren't selling you anything.. you've already been sold cause you have this product. SO all you have to do is call the number I provided. Say hi this is John Doe, address blah blah blah and I want to cancel. Then HANG UP. that's it folks. by law we HAVE TO CANCEL YOUR protection. Here's a more recent tip that you might enjoy... Mention the words BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU and you'll find yourself with a refund credited within the next 1 -2 billing cycles. that simple. Or even better yet.... read the info provided .. people say it's not a usefull program..? I beg to differ. A previous comment was made on this site about how we only make minimum payments? obviously not a person who reads or listens to the T's and C's of out plan. we DEFER. i.e. no payments are due on the card.... you still owe the same amount of money but your credit rating is safe... cause while your unemployed you don't have to make a payment... no interest is building and YES you still CAN use the card.
Just my example of how ppl don't read the important facts. To keep it simple.. if you got it. call the number. verify info and say cancel then hang up. if you have previous charges... threaten the BBB... and if you don't want it period... DON'T cash the checks as a game or a test... read your billing statements and don't mark anything that doesn't need to be.
Sincerely
Kingston Ontario
x-PPP employee.
