FIA Card Services is a company that processes credit cards for banks and other companies. It deals with MBNA and Wachovia and many others. I have a Wachovia credit card, and FIA just started handing the card for Wachovia.
This month I got a surpise - a $10 charge for every time I use the card to get a cash advance from an ATM . This is separate from the standard $2 that the bank that owns the actual ATM charges. This is on top of that. And FIA also charges interest on the cash advance.
It's outrageous, a total ripoff. Why are they charging $10? What does that cover? If you already have to pay a $2 ATM, fee, which by the way is a major ripoff itself, what could FIA possibly need anohter 10 bucks for? It's not to cover their costs, that's what interest is for.
FIA just started processing cards for Wachovia recently, so until June I was never charged for cash advances. I called FIA and complained and they agreed to waive the fees this month since they didn't let me know they were instituting these charges.
Beware if you have a credit card processed by FIA.
