I have received numerous peices of mail, stating my eligibility to get a "platinum, gold or other" credit card at low interest rate. I have a debt with a high interest rate and thought this might be the way to go to pay the debt off sooner.

My husband and I decided the best one to use would be FLEET CREDIT CARD, Primarily, because they offered a low interest rate, a small fee and we were eligible for up to $50,000. The debt we have is a little over $26,000. I answered the form, stating that I would like $20,000. I would then take the
savings I have, and pay the rest of the $26,000. My thought was, I would be able to double my payments to Fleet and pay it off in one third of the time. After about two weeks I had not heard whether I was eligible for the amount I requested or not. So, I decided to call them and was told that I had received that information in the mail. Well I looked through the mail and could'nt find anything.

Wah Lah, the next day sure enough there was mail from FLEET! stating that they had sent my creditor $10,000. Needless to say I was sure this was a mistake. No Mam, that is the amount we found you to be eligible for, not $20,000. When I objected to their decision, they said there was nothing they could do, because they had sent the check already and the creditor I wanted paid off had cashed the check. I feel I was 'jinxed' by the implication that I was eligible for UP to $50K. Now I owe FLEET Bank and the finance company as well. Is that fair? I am in a desperate financial bind now because had they notified me I would not have taken a dime. What can I do?

I want them to either take the $10K back or pay the $20,000 that I requested. I can not afford both payments, (old and NEW account).

We are on a fixed income. Someone Please help!!
