I to was duped into believeing Liberty Settlements was a viable solution to my debt problem. I was desperate, Liberty settlements called me and convinced me that settleing my debts through their company was the most ethical thing to do. Because I am a moral and ethical person I fell for their pipe dream that they fed me.

They told me I could settle my debts for 40-60% less than what I owed. They told me they would open an account at Rocky Mountain Bank and it would be my account and my money would be deposited and only I could release or authorize payments from that account.

Well, my creditors started calling when I could no longer pay and they hadn't heard from me. I was told to not talk to them. I didn't answer the phone. Then I was told to tell them I was working with a company and the company would be contacting them. I updated all information to Liberty Settlements monthly as requested.

On February 4 a Sheriff deputy appeared at my door with a summons for my appearance in court. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was being sued. I immediately called Liberty Settlements and ask them to contact my creditor. They called my creditor and my creditor said they would settle for $4,000 cash. Now if I had $4,000 cash I wouldn't be being sued for non-payment.

I ask them to contact the company ans request a payment schedule that would be acceptable to both. That never happened. Liberty Settlements simply stopped answering my calls, did not return my calls or e-mails.

I started to get a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. I started searching Liberty Settlements and Global Client Solutions on line and found this web site. What an eye opening relevation.

I then decided to call Rocky Mountain Bank and check my account to verify the amount of funds in my account. To my horror, the animated voice on the other end of the line said I had a zero balance. My heart sunk and panic set in. I immediately called my bank and put a stop payment on this company garnishing my account. My bank advised me to contact the states in which these companies are doing business. I am in the process of doing so.

The tricks of a conman include, not giving his true name, George Roberts aka George Manchel. Telling you this is the most ethical way to settle your debts. It is not true, the most ethical way is to deal directly with your creditors. Liberty Settlements told me that my creditors would be unwilling to work with me and the interest and penalities would continue to pile up. I believed them. However, that also is not true.

Once I discoverd what was really going on and that I was really being defrauded, I contacted the creditors personally. Not only did they agree to settle my debt, they cancelled all interest and penalities. I now have a payment structure I can afford, not judgements against me, very little detriment to my credit rating and in fact my credit will be restored after six months. Which is a lot better that 3 1/2 years of non-payment going against my credit, as well as a probable judgement against me.

TAKE MY ADVICE, GET THE COURAGE TO CALL YOUR CREDITORS OR A LAWYER AND HANDLE IT YOURSELF. THESE PREDITORS OR NOT ETHICAL NOR ARE THE MORAL.

Enough is enough.Regulate, or ban the industry-their slogan is give me your uneducated, & most vulnerable

It is amazing. Even on sites I have been at that cite FBI advice of these companies, the FBI giving advice "beware of any settlement companies asking for upfront fees, or saying they can settle your debt for 50 % , these are usually settlement companies themselves, then they have a click here, and on the same page is an ad for a settlement company asking for upfront fees, or saying will same 40% to 60%.

Some states, I have been advised have begun banning them. When the gentleman said in the early nineties they set up legit companies, and spent millions of dollars, to be legit, I find that hard to believe.

Even while Global Client Solutions was being fined in California along with some other companies they were doing business with (fined substantially) they had, and were making announcements of new relationships with other new debt settlement companies. It is laughable.

About time for regulation to the max. How can a settlement company in Nevada, without an attorney in New Jersey, help, or assist a client being sued in New Jersey, other than "to not return phone calls" on purpose, so you will violate term of agreement, they want you to violate term of agreement - collect cancellation fees.

It is a completely more or less unregulated business, and that is why so many jumping on the bandwagon, reminds me of phone slamming in the mid nineties.

End it now. Ban them. Forget about civil penalties. Throw the jokers in jail. They are driving BMW's while taking advantage of people who need help.

They even rely on accumulating enough money, so if they get fined pay fine, while living high on the hog and start all over.

Just totally sick of it, all fifty states need to get in on this, or Federal laws enacted now.

Deception in the Settlement Industry

AUTHOR: Kskertic - (U.S.A.)

Dear "Bruned in FLorida",

My ears turned red and got hot when I was reading your problems with Liberty. I know who they are and I know of the people that run that company. I despise them! I opened a company back in the 1990's offering debt settlement services. We spent literally millions of dollars building a program that was 100% compliant at all local. state, and federal levels and has helped thousands of consumers. Heres the problem - the majority of companies out there are not compliant and are ripoffs as you experienced. The government has benn doing a lot in recent years to put laws in place to eliminate companies like Liberty through strict penalties.
