i bought a computer game from target, and it would not load in my computer. i tried to take it back for a exchange or refund and i was told no refund because it was allready open. i took it to a computer shop and the told me it was the game, because they could not download it either. so i guess the consumer is stuck with the problems of defective computer games. so buyer beware of buying computer games at retail stores......

Don't blame the company

It's not like we can open and test every product. If the game was defective and opened you should have been able to exchange it out for the same title. That is our policy in regards to opened defective electronics. Refunds we can not give, this is all due to copyrights.

One more time

As I have explained in other posting, Target and other major retailers just like you have no way of knowing if something you purchase is going to be defective. The manufacturer of the product is the sole entity responsible for that. If you have an issue with something that is defective you should be taking it up with the manufacture and not the retailer. Target and the other major retailers are not in any way representing the manufacturer of the products they sell. Just like you buy from them they buy from the manufacturer, once that is done the products they buy are the sole property of Target until sold to the consumer. If they were representing the manufacturer then it would have to be the manufacturer that pressed charges in a shoplifting incident and not Target since by your representation of how Target does business the product still belongs to the manufacturer and not the retailer. And just like you and Target don't know if something is defective before you buy it they also don't know if the item is really defective, or the consumer hasn't just taken the game or cd home and downloaded it or burned it and are now trying to return it for their money back. Hence the FEDERAL Copyright Laws that Target and othe major retailers must observe and abide by.

Really?

did you ever thing to read the specs on the back of the game? did you ever think that maybe your old ass pc couldent play that game? Maybe your videocard cannot handle the game?? There is fedral law in place protecting everyone from copyrighters, which means the store has no choice in the matter, They can only echange same game for same game, you can thank the amazingly trustworthy people of the united states for that. deal with it. talk to the manufacture it helps alot

Larry, you are just another victim of Target's None customer service policy

Larry,

Forget what these kids are saying about "Copyright" and "Federal Laws". They don't understand what there talking about. The laws that they are referring to where put in place to "prevent retailers from knowing engaging or participating in unauthorized coping of materials protected under Federal Copy Right laws".

What that means is let's say I own a store and I sell you a CD: you return the CD to me because you burnt a copy of the CD and I knew it. That's what the "Federal Copy Right Laws" are. They have nothing to do with honest people like you who purchase a copy righted product and find it's defective.

Big retailers use the phraze "Federal Copy Right Laws" as a "reason" not to return or exchange copy righted products. They pass this miss information on to the people who they hire and they repeat it. As found on this site.

Any retailer Target, Walmart, Kmart etc. should take back and exchange ANY product that they sell that is defective. They are the ones who make the profit on the sale. Part of the responsibility of that is backing the product to whom they sell it too. Target is not under "Federal Law" which disallows them to accept copyrighted products. That is a lie that they are hiding behind.

You deserve better customer service then what you've received. I suggest that you file a complaint with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and contact the Target Corporate offices in MN. Whatever you do just don't accept this from Target. Keep fighting, you are worth it. The money you spend in Target helps support the MILLION dollar salaries of the executives! They don't care about you so KEEP SCREAMING UNTIL SOMEONE HELPS YOU! YOU ARE RIGHT!

why blame the retailer?

Because they are the one;s that sell the game not the manufacturer if you sell a game or product for the manufacturer you are representing them on their behalf, to refund the merchandise or money you are out of pocket'

Why blame the retailer?

Why are you blaming the retailer and not the maker of the game? They would have exchanged the game for another of the same. Did you try this to see if it was just a defective disk?
