My husband and I have eaten at the Popeye's Chicken restaurant @ 5988 N Rivers Avenue five times. Three of the five times we used our debit card and were over charged.
The first incident was when my husband went through the drive-thru and brought home dinner. I noticed a discrepancy in our checking account so I checked the account online. Popeye's had charged us the amount twice. Naturally we assumed it was just a mistake and disputed the charge through our bank.
A couple of weeks later we went there for lunch again. This time our card was swiped and given back to my husband. Then, they asked to see it again. My husband told them he was not going to let them see it again because we had been double charged by them before. They insisted that we would not be charged twice and the manager was very nasty about it and made it seem like it was no big deal for us to have to take our time to dispute the charge with the bank again. Well, we were double charged again!!
This last time was Friday, October 11th. It was raining that day and my husband and I went there because it was close. Our total was $10.47. And yes, we gave them our debit card.
Today I discovered that not only were we charged the $10.47 but they had also swiped the card at $104.54!!!! Now I am having to try to get this money back as well.
My main reason filing this report is my concern that they are kiting money. Either someone is pocketing this cash or they are putting it in their account and paying bills or whatever out of it until they have to give it back.
The fact that this has happened three of the five times we have been there, and that the manager was so cold and strange about it has made us very suspicious. What about all the people who don't check their statements or the people who are using a charge card and don't look at those statements? If this has happened three out of five times to us how many other people is it happening to??
I have contacted the corporate office but have not received a response.
