My truck was stolen in the Magic Kingdoms parking lot with all the tools I use to make a living with.

Disney has security and charges for parking seperately from entrance into the park. I paid for this. They also do not allow local police patrols in the parking lot. They have cameras stationed in the park, but not in the parking lot.

I called Susan E. Shriver at guest Claims Department and she and her staff were rude to me in telling me they are not covered for criminal acts such as these.

I wrote Michael Eisner (CEO)a letter telling him of all the details of the situation and mailed it overnight mail. Almost 6 weeks letter I get a letter from the same rude woman stateing Michael Eisner had referred my letter back to them to handle and gave me the same original denial.

My original trip to Disney was to take a vacation because I had just almost died in the hospital. My wife and I had intended this to be a trip to escape stress and renew our lives. This thanks to Disney made our lives miserable. I could not work now and I had no transportation. Although we had insurance on the truck (which never pays what it's worth) , my tools were not covered. So, needless to say it will take me years to recover from Disney's total disregard of their responsibilities toward their guest in the park they leave unprotected.

Orange County sheriffs dept have asked them to put cameras in their parking lot, but they say no. They haven't that much theft there. That didn't help me did it. And thats were I stand unto this day. With no help! And no way to recover any of what was taken from me. They gave me a false sense of security. I didn't even get my parking money back!

Parking lots, garages never take responsibilities for damages, losses. It is not only Disney's policy. At the entrances on parking lots/garages, on the back of parking tickets there is always a warning: " we are not reponsible for - and a long list - "

The reason? It is almost impossible to prevent ALL the damages, losses. Skilled criminals can open a car in less than 30 seconds, less skilled drivers can damage other parking cars in less than 10 seconds. There is no way to check everybody who opens a car, if he/she opens his/her own car. By accepting any repsonsibility for damages, they would be full of lawsuit: everybody would blame the parking lots/garages for every dent, scratch...

Is it fair? No. And no, I do not want to defend Disney. They should spend much more on parking lot security, and on much more things - I could list my recommendations for hours. (I live close to Disneyland, I consider it as a disaster and not as a blessing for our county.)

Yes, in parking lots where there are cameras, patrols the damages, losses are much less. Yes, usually local police can help a lot, if they are allowed....

Homeowners insurance

Meghann - Buffalo ()

POSTED: Tuesday, August 20, 2002
Tony,

Your auto insurance only covers damage to your vehicle from a break-in & theft of your vehicle; it doesn't cover your tools because they are personal property not integral to your vehicle.

Your homeowners or renters insurance will cover the loss of your tools; the amount it covers depends upon the kind of coverage you have (e.g., actual value versus full replacement value).

Someone from your insurance company should have told you this when you filed the original claim. You'll have to document the contents of your truck & the value of everything, but your homeowners/renters insurance will cover it (or at least part of it).

Good luck...

Call the Guest Claims manager and ask him why Disney will not pay for tires damaged by "do not enter" tire spikes, yet when his son's tires were punctured, HE got them replaced. Then ask them why they don't pay for damage to teeth broken while consuming food in their restaurants, yet when a former workers' comp manager broke his tooth, they paid.

Trust me, if you were related, the check would already be in the mail.

The insurance company told us all the way through verbally that the tools were covered. My wife and I both asked them and they said yes. That is until they got stolen then told us that only the tool boxs were covered.

Cameras

There are in fact video cameras all over the parking lots, and everywhere else at Walt Disney World. I'm a castmember. My car was hit, in the castmember parking lot. It was right under the camera. The video tapes are recycled every 7 days. When told Security about the damage, they pulled the tape, and told me they couldn't find my car on the tape. So don't feel bad, they were just covering their butts, so someone else would pay for their lack of competence.

I too have had problems with Disney parking. Last summer my boyfriend took me and my kids to Disney California Adventure. We used the valet parking, the one where the characters park your cars for you. Instead of parking yourself in for example "P" for Pinocchio to claim your car you tell them Pinocchio parked your car and that's how they find it, etc.

Anyways as I was saying our car was parked by Jiminy Cricket. I thought I saw him smoking a cigarette and our car did smell like smoke but I didn't push it, namely because of the bigger problem. When we returned the rental car we noticed the odometer had 1000 extra miles on it. We had unlimited mileage so it was cool, we weren't out any money, but... what the hell is going on at Disneyland that their characters are tearing through Anahiem in my car?

Dont blame the owner

I am sorry that you got crappel (just some bad luck)

But you cant hold a company responsible for the crinimial act of others .. It was stated on the back of the ticket as said in the earlier response. You would think that business owner who uses his own tools would be smart enough to insure against theft.. or leave them at home when on vacation.

You have a choice .. pay the parking fee or dont but dont blame them for denying your claim .. I would too

Why did you take your tools?

Brandon - Mesa ()

Kevin's right, why did you take your tools to Disneyland? You definately can't blame someone else for your ignorance and lack of planning. If my livelihood depended on something such as tools, I personally would do everything in my power to protect them. I'd MAKE SURE that my insurance covered them, I wouldn't leave them in my vehicle, especially when traveling to a place such as Disneyland. Thieves prey on parking lots of major attractions such as theme parks and shopping malls. Why? Because there are so many cars and so little security. So, take this as an expensive lesson. Leave the tools at home next time!
