IKEA Hicksville may represent the worst service ever from any organization we have ever dealt with.

Here is a letter I sent to them amongs 4 hours of phone calls and multiple e-mails none of them returned.

Its amazing after spending $5,000 with them we can't get any service and they actually could care less about getting additional business from us.

Here is the e-mail and letter that I think explains all...

Dear Sean (he's one of the ridiculously lame managers),

It is amazing that I simply can't get this resolved even after 3 weeks and 4 plus hours of attempts to resolve it with Ikea staff. I have sent you an e-mail listing the problems, I have faxed the General Manager of the Hicksville Store and left multiple messages at work Ikea's voice mail – none of which have been returned.

One thing is apparent, no one cares about the situation at your store and we are going to pursue this vigorously with Ikea corporate by sending them the faxes, e-mails and dates of all calls made to LI Ikea and the lack of response. We can't imagine that corporate allows this type of service especially with corporate customers.

I'm no longer angry about the hours I spent on this but rather sickened by the worst customer service levels I have had to deal with in quite some time.

Here is the letter I sent to the manager of the store...

To Whom It May Concern:

We decided to test run using Ikea for 4 of our offices in our new corporate facility. The decision to do so has unfortunately created what was our second biggest headache in our entire moving process. I have spent several hours of my time trying to correct all the issues.

It is hard to understand how after leaving 3 messages over the course of a business week at work Ikea I could not get a call back even though I left my cell number where I can be reached anytime. Eventually, I did get my shipment 3 weeks after the original intended date. When it arrived there were many pieces missing and after several times holding for more than 15 minutes I was finally put in touch with Alissa. I was able to report some of the missing pieces right away since the assembly person saw right away some of the missing items. By the end of the day we found many pieces missing as well as significant damage to one of the Galant desk tops.

All of this would be forgivable if after a week of trying to reach Alissa again I have been unable. Two additional messages have been left with my cell phone pleading for a call back. Yet, no call was ever returned. This service is abysmal. I rightfully feel Ikea could care less. Pieces of unfinished furniture sit in our warehouse that we have been charged for yet cannot use.

Here is a list of missing pieces that were paid for but not received…
3 Jules Seat Shells In Black
1 Jules Chair Frame
2 Nominell Arm Rest
4 Trassent/Beslut St/Bk ULTUNADGRY CF

Damaged Parts That Are Awaiting A Credit That Has Been Claimed Via A Form From Assembly Company…
1 Galant 63 x 47 Top (part of a $309 desktop system)

Items that were ordered on 9/18 and still not received despite the indication that we would receive all pieces within 2 weeks…
2 EFF N Draw Unit/3 Draw bch Ven
Galant Tbl Top 46 ½” Dgry

Items on order and/or in drawings done by Ikea but not charged or received…
1 Additional Nominell Chair with armrests (like the other 2 that were shipped)
4 Packs of Bar Magnets wht/blk 8 pk
1 Galant 1/2rnd tbltp 16x32” bchv
1 Galant Frm For Halfrnd Tbltp Slv

It is my sincere hope that this will be taken care of immediately. It is hard for me to believe that I have had to take over 4 hours of my own time attempting to correct these issues. Most difficult of all is that we had every intention of using Ikea for the rest of our offices since we do like the furniture. Yet, I feel it would be difficult to do so considering the incredible lack of customer service.

We request an immediate answer as to when the above situation will be resolved.
Sincerely,

Steven

SURPRISE SURPRISE - We never received an answer or our merchandise. We have decided to take this up through AMEX and we are contimplating the creation of an IKEA problem (forum) website. They have truly taken a company (us) who had every intention of filling more of our offices with Ikea furniture into a company that truly despises them.

You should see how they treat prospective employees, as well as current employees

So after making people jump through hoops for interviews to work for the company, this is the standard email (yes EMAIL) they send out to people who don't meet thier specific 'idea' of an Ikea worker (at my local one, Conshohoken PA if you're not black, and arrogant you don't qualify)

XXX XXXXXX,

Many thanks for your commitment and the enjoyable meeting. It was difficult for us to reach a decision.

We have to make many decisions each day – including those, which are neither easy nor pleasant: telling you today that your application was unsuccessful is one of them.

We are convinced that your personality and abilities will lead you to a good career.

Even if on this occasion we do not have the position, which is just right for you, we most certainly have the right furnishings. And who knows, at some point there may be other opportunities at IKEA.

Kind regards

IKEA A/S

They're willing to push thier product, because while the person isn't good enough for Ikea, thier furnishings are, so don't forget to buy them.

This, on top of a horrible expieriance I had last summer is why I no longer work for, nor visit Ikea.

(Short version of what happened last summer... purchased a bed for my kid, it took four trips because no one was competent enough to make sure I had every single piece needed, and while they kept trying to get me to buy more stuff, they failed to write down the complete sets. So after the fourth trip back, and by this point I was pissed, they gave me nothing but 10 cents a mile for my time for the fourth and final trip... so when I went back the next day to return the bed, and a few other pieces for the room, they balked because I got a whopping four dollars as a millage 'reimbursement')

Securitas Security and Ikea are both owned by Swedish companies...

And that is why I didn't expect too much when I went to Ikea for my first taste of European style shopping. I took the catalog and made a battle plan and furnished my entire apartment for $500.

It had an in-house cafe and I got to drink Loganberry juice and eat Swedish pancakes with loganberry syrup. They were very good. Logan berry tastes like a slightly sweet Cherry Kool-Aid.

I didn't pay much attention to the help. All I know is that there are several hundred people on the waiting list to work there so people must be happy there. Maybe happier than at Wal-Mart although I think IKEA and Wal-mart carry about the same quality of merchandise that you have to assemble ---OVERALL. Retail is retail and to me it would be Retail hell to have to work the floor of either place.

I should also mention that the IKEA I went to was in Round Rock, Texas. I heard that it was a yuppie store so I had a legal length pocket knife and a baseball bat in my car in case the yuppies attacked me... Nobody did and the people I saw in there were just ordinary folks shopping for their college student kids dorm rooms and apartments and young couples and no YUPPIES at all! MY KIND OF PLACE.

I had an unfortunate shouting incident with some twenty somethings on the parking lot when I left because they objected to Latinos shopping there but they decided that maybe I could play baseball and knew what to do with my bat so they left.

Maybe your Ikeas are run differently from our here in Round Rock,Texas. I wish I could see which stores made the most money--ours or yours.

I can say I would rather eat in their in-house cafeteria than the barf-inducing Clown burgers that the Wal-marts feature....

I was pleasantly surprised by IKEA but because they are inconveniently located so far from where I live and they are not on a bus route -- by design or accident, I have NO idea, I probably will never go back. With all of their tricked out designer emphasis, they get to be a one-trick pony after a while.

I can't say I was ripped off there. I CAN say that it was a pretty neat experience to see how Swedish stores operate. Better wear your walking shoes because you WILL get your exercise busting flats of furniture and just getting from point a to point b.

On a scale of 1 - 10,I WOULD RATE MY FIRST AND ONLY IKEA VISIT A RESPECTABLE 8. YUPPIE FREE SHOPPING MAKES IT A GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR ME!
