I ordered a gun safe from Sportsman Steel on 7-24-09 for the amount of $2488.00 with a deposit the same day of $1200.00. I was told the safe would be in the next week.
10 weeks later I finally take delivery of the safe (10-2-09).
I researched this company and numerous times was told that all safes were made in America 100%. Upon delivery I noticed on the box that Made In China, on all four sides, had been spray painted over. After removing the cardboard I found a Made In China sticker on the back of the safe that they forgot to remove. Explains the 10 week delivery.
I called the Houston store on Saturday 10-3-09, and asked if their safes were made in America and he said yes. I then called the Los Angeles CA plant and talked to Stoney. I also asked him if their safes were made in America, and he also stated yes, and that they have been for 28 years. Their website states numerous times not to buy cheap China made safes and numerous times are proud of theirs being made in America.
I talked to Richard with Customer Service (1800-266-7150)today 10-5-09. I asked him the same question and at first said yes that they were made in America, then reluctantly said "well most of them". I asked for a full refund. He said he would work on it. They also display the BBB on their website and Houston store location. I am very disappointed and work very hard at trying to buy American made items, to have these people lie to me, try to cover it up and sell me China made products infuriates me to no end.

10-06-2009 Spoke with Paul at Houston location, he stated all parts are American, just California puts the Made In China on it. Ha, good one.
Spoke with Richard again on 10-06-2009. Richard finally admitted I received an imported safe!!! Offered to build me another one out of their Long Beach location. Duration 2 weeks, yeah right. After all these lies.
I declined and asked for a full refund. I guess if you order a safe from them you must request one that is built in America.
