In July 2007, I contacted JGY Customs about a project I wanted them to take on. JGY Customs is a Nissan Specialty Store/Shop. I own a 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R. Jason Garrett Young (dba/JGY Customs) verbally agreed to build my car (engine, interior, brakes, suspension, transmission, etc... A price was never agreed on because I furnished Jason with a list of everything I wanted done on the car and he was supposed to get back to me with a quote. This never happened.

I have done business with Jason in the past and I trusted him, so I shipped my car to him ( I live in Utah and Jason is located in Virginia). Per my multiple conversations with Jason, he would start on the car and I would send him payments (via my debit card) of $1200 a month while he was working on the car. He told me that when he had a final price, he would let me know and we could discuss further payment arrangements. I began work as a government contractor, stationed in Iraq in July 2007. My car was to be done (agreed upon by Jason, verbally) by July 2008 which is when my contract was up and I would be back in the U.S...

While I was in Iraq, I continued to pay Jason and I also continued to contact him about the progress of my vehicle. Jason was "never available," "always busy." I came home for my first vacation in November of 2007. I visited JGY Customs and Jason had not done a bit of work on my vehicle, nor had he even read through my list of what I wanted done to the vehicle. Keep in mind, he continued to take my payments. He and I talked and I thought we had it all straightened out. He had some questions for me about brands I wanted to use, etc. and what my final vision for the car was.

During the next 8 months, I continued to pay Jason and I contiinued my attempts to contact him. I could never get ahold of him and was always told (by him employees) that Jason was busy and that they were speaking for him. He never had an explanation for why my car had not been worked on, for why he was still taking payments without ever having ordered a part, for why he was not communicating with me, or for why he refused to give me a written quote and a written payment agreement (as requested by my wife and myself several times).
July 2008 came and went. I extended my contract in Iraq and came home for a vacation in August 2008. I visited JGY Customs.

At that time, I had given Jason about $12,000 and still nothing had been done to my car and we still had nothing in writing. Jason acted very friendly during that visit and had actually started to order some of the parts for my car. I left there, feeling like he would start on the car and like he was still going to fulfill his end of the bargain(build my car).

Two days after that visit (I was still in the area), Jason began to harass me via email under one of his employees names. There's not enough room here to list the nature of his harassment, but I have the emails. I ended up having to go up there again (a 4 hour drive for me) and straighten the situation out. Jason and I agreed (verbally) that he would finish my car (not to exceed $20,000) by September 2009.

I have paid JGY Customs $15,600 so far and they are saying I owe $23,300 (even though Jason agreed to and knew that I did not authorize anything over $20,000). By Jason's (and one of his employees) own admission, a significant amount of the parts have not even been ordered (that are already included in the total invoice). No where near $15,000 worth of work has even been done on the vehicle. Jason has just sent me a certified letter stating that I have until March 2009 to pay the entire invoice amount. He refuses to speak with me. He states in his letter that a policy regarding "abandoned projects" was discussed with me. I made my last payment of $300 to JGY 6 weeks ago.

Until this certified letter, he has refused to put anything in writing (including a payment arrangement). I never agreed (even verbally) to pay the entire amount owed on the project before the project was done. That would be stupid on my part and bad business on his. Even if he'd done $23,000 worth of work/parts to the vehicle, he still has over half of the money.

I began looking into JGY's reputation recently and they have had several complaints brought against them by customers through the better business bureau. It turns out he is not a good business man and I believe I've been duped and that JGY (and Jason Garrett Young specifically) is trying to rob me of my money and my vehicle.

The outcome I would like (if I had the choice) would be simply to cut all ties with JGY and Jason Garrett Young. I want my car back (I've already requested, in writing, that I don't want JGY to touch my vehicle anymore) and I'd like to recoup some of the money I feel they've stolen from me. Please feel free to contact me further if you need anymore details. I have plenty more. Thank you.

AUTHOR: Abby - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, March 27, 2013

My name is Abby.

I am not a teenager.  You did talk to me.

How can we be a rip off if you didn't buy anything from us? Here is the situation:   You did call and I was very polite.  We are a busy place and I can't stay on the phone with you all day.

I spent as much time with you as I could.  You could also drive here, but you called.  I drive to Roanoke all the time.

You just sent me this email.

Please do not use that type of language with me.  The owner of this business wouldn't accept it.  My husband wouldn't accept it either.

You probably made that email up too.

Sending that email discredits anything you posted.  Please don't call me again.

crazy person, Alexi Boado

AUTHOR: Wholesale@JGY - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 26, 2010

I know who this person is. The owner said he sued for over 26 different things and the court case took for ever.  He said he sued for stuff like "car too low, excessive wheel spin, loose turbo bolts, and car insurance".

Jason said on every issue that we won, but that we did have to give him a gti-r intercooler per the court.

The funny part was that he actually sued us for someone writing (((Redacted)))       or something.   He actually took a photo of his tag with that on it, put it on his stupid website and claimed that people were teasing him about it.  HE WAS THE ONE THAT PUT IT ON THE INTERNET.

Most of what he wrote above.........no shop would ever agree to and ask you to leave.  That is silly to even expect that type of servous.

He was one of our worst customers and has been banned from purchasing again.

Here is his last contact info:

JGY Customs did the same thing to me....

AUTHOR: Anonymous in Maryland - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, October 25, 2010

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience with JGY Customs.

A few years ago I went through the SAME THING with them.

I even had a webpage on GEOCITIES (Yahoo closed down geocities recently in 2010) about everything they put me through.

They did a complete engine swap on a SE-R and tranny rebuild. The litany of poor workmanship was surreal. The transmission stopped working almost immediately, exhaust and turbo leaks....never mind that they had my car for more than a year.

I ended up bringing them to court. I had to make 2 trips down to go to the local town court. It was a nightmare.

I did my best to warn the Nissan community, but somehow, JGY remains in business despite being banned from at least one online Nissan forum that I know of.

I AM NOT A LAWYER, but after having been burned badly I thought I would share some thoughts with those who plan on doing major modifications to their cars. This is my experience.

1. Take your time and do some SERIOUS RESEARCH before you choose a vendor. Call the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU to check for past complaints.

Get references from past customers. Ask any online forums for recommendations and about any complaints with the prospective vendor. Has that vendor been sued repeatedly? Find out.

2. Don't entrust your car to any shop without a thorough check of their qualifications.

They should have ASE certified mechanics on staff. Ask them if they have proven experience in manufacturing, basic engine tuning, engine rebuilding, metal working, electrical work, etc.

3. PICK A LOCAL SHOP IF POSSIBLE. If you use a shop/vendor that is geographically proximate you can monitor their work, easily bring your car back for warranty repairs, and/or easily bring them to court if they cheat you. I cannot emphasize how IMPORTANT this is.

4. I can't stress this enough...GET A CONTRACT before you spend thousands of dollars on your car. Do not pay anyone to work on your car, especially for non-standard/aftermarket modifications, without a CONTRACT outlining basic expectations and timeframe.

There is no ASE manual to consult with on expected labor times and rates for non-standard work. If you end up in court the CONTRACT will be the basis for a complaint. If the judge is not mechanically competent your arguments will need to relate to poor performance of the CONTRACT because he or she wont have a clue what youre talking about. Even a few sentences scribbled on the shop's invoice is better than nothing. o Youd be amazed "how bad some people's memory gets" in front of that judge.

5. Make sure the shop outlines all WARRANTIES for parts and labor. Also remember that although a shop may claim they have no responsibility for parts and labor, local laws may contradict this. CHECK LOCAL LAWS.

6. DOCUMENT ALL CORRESPONDENCE. Save every E-MAIL, take PICTURES, bring multiple WITNESSES to every meeting you have with the shop/vendor and send everything registered mail. Keep phone conversations to a minimum because you cannot record them without permission. Again, you'd be amazed how much people can "forget" or even just outright lie, when in court.

7. Always pay with a credit card, NEVER with CASH and avoid personal checks. The willingness of your CC company to mediate credit card disputes varies by lender. However the CC company can provide a very effective way to get your money back should you get cheated. Investigate which of your CC companies has the most aggressive and customer-loyal dispute resolution services.

8. If you don't agree with the quality of work done, you might consider not paying them (see next tip). In some cases if you pay the shop, this may imply you agreed with the quality of work done. Remember, THEY CANNOT HOLD YOUR CAR. It's your property. Call the police if you need to. Take your car and arbitrate or go to court later. Arbitration services are often available in your county for free.

9. Remember, some jurisdictions require you to provide proof that you spent money to repair damages(s) made by the shop before you can bring a law suit against the shop! This means you might have to spend THOUSANDS of DOLLARS to repair mistakes with NO GUARANTEE you'll get any of it back from the vendor/shop. Especially if you dont have a CONTRACT!!! Check local Laws.

10. Don't let the excitement of your project put you in a compromising situation. It's better to pay a little more for parts and service and go with a LOCAL and REPUTABLE shop, than to get a lower price from a start-up operation.

photos on website

AUTHOR: jgy customs - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, January 18, 2010

Additionally,  You can see some of the photos of the car here:  http://www.jgy.cc/Project%20Cars/Corey_Short/Corey_Short.htm

As pictured, and not even including the cost of the labor to install the items, the cost of the Ksport brakes, the Ksport GT Pro coilovers, the wheels and tires, the sway bars, the Ksport lower control brace, and the Energy Suspension bushing kit is well over $6500.  Not pictured is the Haltech that we custom ordered for him, "Haltech E11 with a Patch kit for the Gti-r with the Pro Dash and the XD-16" that was $4242.  That is over $10,000 in just a few items.  When you add many of the other items not shown, but in his storage area for the build, you start approaching $25,000 quickly.

You can see where we are trying to sell the Pro Dash at a loss here:  http://www.jgy.cc/haltech.htm   for $2100           This was a special order for Cory from Haltech.  I have been through Cory's folder reading the printed emails from him where he wanted that one even though Pam and Jason tried to talk him into the cheaper, yet effective Racepak that we sell.

The car has $697 worth of door panels installed into it.  Each time that Cory came here, he reviewed his items and work on the car and you can see some of the work on the above link.

His entire claim is false as to not knowing what the bill was.  Each time before he or his wife would call in to make a payment, they required that we send them a copy of the invoice via email.  Each time they added something to the invoice, we would send them an updated email through quickbooks showing them the total.  When you are only paying $1200 a month and you add over $4000 worth of stand alone to your invoice, it will take you almost 4 months of paying just to catch back up.  Jason said that when Pam first started his invoice, it was over $20,000 without any of the Ksport or Haltech stuff on there.

Cory did not ship the car here.   JGY had the car shipped here and paid for it.  We did charge him to do so, but all the effort was done by us.  His entire description of the "pay when it is done" is completely false and wrong.  He knows this.  In 2006 he finished paying on his invoice for a motor build that took him over a year to pay for on invoicee number 1204  He knows that the work is finished on or around the time the bill is finished and that no large jobs are completed just on the assumption that the customer will pay.  He has 7 invoices here of which 5 have been paid and shipped as 2 of them include the car and the wheels and the wheels are to be gotten with the car.

His old car is for sale here:  http://www.jgy.cc/Cars%204%20Sale/white92.htm

If and when it sells, that amount will be deducted from his invoice.

Again, countless times, Cory Short, Amy Short, and all the employees of JGY, including Jason discussed the invoice, reviewed the invoice, and were all aware of the total of the invoice, that kept growing due to Cory continue to add to the invoice.  After reviewing this with Jason, he claims that in fear that Cory would not finish paying on invoice 6631, that he contacted Cory and had Cory pay and be invoiced on a separate invoice for the wheels photo'd above on invoice 8214 (which if, you notice is about 1500 invoices after the first one we started for him.  Almost everything on his invoice has been ordered, paid for, installed or shelved, and collected dust and/or rust.  On his invoice of over $30,000, approximately $2000 of labor has not been done and about $4000 worth of parts have not been ordered, including a turbo.  The invoice total is actually closer to $35k to $40k, but has been reducing as we sell items that have been ordered for him, and these deductions ARE shown on the invoice.

Again, on many many many occasions, Cory and Amy requested and received copies of their invoice showing the total of the build.  At no time was anything added to their invoice without their permission and that includes the $103.54 for shipping Cory's old tranny to Fred Bett's in VA for him.

Our assumption is that Cory either lost his job, lost his intellect, lost his wife, or decided to cancel the job and decided that not paying for it would be his option.  This is evident by no contact from Cory to JGY for the entire year of 2009.  After 365 days of waiting to be paid, there is little we can do.

Response to false JGY report

AUTHOR: jgy customs - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, January 18, 2010

Most of the information provided by Cory Short is incorrect.  He owes JGY $13,898.78 as of last week.  In an attempt to help his debt, we have sold some of the merchandise that he was attempting to purchase from us that we installed on his car such as brakes, suspension, and a hood.  This has lowered his bill some.  The last time that he paid on his bill was "paid $300.00 12/15/08 pd to date $15,600.00."  We have made multiple attempts to get him to pay the bill to no avail.  The last time, multiple threads were made over the phone from Cory to JGY's staff and even included a described "hit" as he phrased it that was to occur at Virginia International Raceway in the Danville, VA area that was to be conducted on Jason and Garland, both of JGY.   Starting last year, we started charging a storage fee according to Virginia guidelines.  Because of the extreme build that car was receiving, only paying 40% of the total invoice prevents us from finishing the bill becuase if the car is to be sold at auction, having a NADA value of just $2000, makes it useless.  The project has been placed on permanent hold and the parts are being sold to recoup the loss.  Any monies that are received in excess of the bill, will be returned to Cory and/or Amy Short which will probably not happen due to the unusualness of build.

FWIW, the entire generation of the invoice, payment process, and payment history was conducted by Pam Hogston, an employee of JGYCustoms.  Most of what Cory refers to as dealings with the owner, simply did not occur.  There is no such "DBA as JGY" or any of that.  JGYCustoms, Inc. is a VA corporation owned by Jason.  The personal described issues that Cory references, simply did not occur.  Jason did contact him in 2008 when his bill approached the $40,000 mark and he only had paid up to $10,000 in payments.

For more information, copies of signed letters, copies of payment histories, and copies of unpaid bills, please contact any of the staff of JGY @ 276 782 9100.

We request that this information be reviewed, and afterwards, removed as a fake claim.
