A perky, pretty girl actually ENTERED my house without my knowledge -- she was INSIDE our glassed in porch before the dog went crazy barking at her. I was caught off gaurd and didn't get my act together fast enough to just tell her to leave. She told me she was going to college and if I liked her speech enough she would get scholarship money. She wanted to eventually open an all-night day car center for kids and to be a child psychologist. Looking back on this event, I feel she was in need of such professional services as a child -- probably had a screwy childhood. She seemed "off" somehow and I felt weird having her in the house.

This girl, with her mismatched eyes (one blue, one green, I think), talked me into paying $40 to get our National Geographic renewed. After she had my money, she turned off the charm abruptly and exited. I felt very uncomfortable. I couldn't relax for hours.

About six months later, we noticed National Geographic had stopped coming. We realized our original subscription had run out, and the two year renewal by Book Net had never started. National Geographic told me that someone had called to renew in May (when my perky visitor had come), and then a few months later had cancelled the order.

I did what everyone did -- sent Book Net a copy of the bank statement noting the electronic payment to Book Net, and a copy of the receipt. We actually NEVER got our check back from the bank, as we usually do, so I couldn't send a copy of the check. I have waited patiently for nearly three months with no reply.

I am now livid, especially after finding out that I really was ripped off, but I tell myself it's only 40 bucks, and now when one of those charming young people pops up to my door pleading for my vote (translation: MONEY), I tell them without guilt to take a hike. They scamper away without argument, which is rather satisfying.

But I still wouldn't mind getting Book Net in a whold lot of trouble!
