www.wwf.org aka world wildlife organization is airing a commercial that is extremely misleading.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMLJD-mantE Claiming that global warming is causing the polar bears to be nearing extinction. And asking for money. They show a mother and baby on an ice flow.

The fact is that this same organization reported in 2002 that "Polar bear numbers increased dramatically from around 5,000 in the 1950s to as many as 25,000 today, higher than at any time in the 20th century.
Of the distinct polar bear populations worldwide, only two populations are decreasing. The majority of the populations are stable or increasing." by Stefan Norris, Lynn Rosentrater and Pal Martin Eid “Polar Bears at Risk: A WWF Status Report,” World Wildlife Fund, May 2002.

This commercial caught my attention being broadcast on Comedy Central on Oct. 4, 2008 because last year I had heard that a lot of agencies were trying to gin up phony support of the so-called "near extinction" of polar bears in order to rake in contributions to people not paying too much attention.

Here are some of the articles that I found when I had looked up these claims:

I think if I did a commercial asking for money because of the near extinction of dachshunds I would have the feds knocking on my door tomorrow. They are saying that there are only about 25,000 polar bears left in the world. 25,000???!!! That is hardly the few hundred condors or buffalo that were nearly wiped out before they were brought back. Trust me, there is more then enough gene pool there to go around.

People need to wake up to these so-called legitimate organizations using phony causes to gin up their coffers which they mainly just turn around and pay to lobbyists in Washington D.C. If anyone knows of any other agencies I can report this to, let me know.
