IT is typical, in my experience, that Signtronix would resort to an answer such as "this guy's a druggy" or something to that effect. THey are a company of name callers who resort to such tactics when the customer doesn't bow down to them!
Please see my report. It includes my experience with Signtronix and my salesman Bill Runyan.

Thank god for the internet. I went for a job interview this past week, and when i say i smelled a rat i mean rat. The intsructor named Joel would not answer any of my questions about the product. The old song & dance was in full effect and h**l
i was trying to work for the company. After day #2 I knew there was a problem because the classroom of so-called new salesman had been reduced from 10 to 6 in just 1 day. So i decided to do more research, and what i found out was not good at all. I take pride in what i sell, and i was not feeling this product what so ever. I read about the poor signs, customer service and problems with installers.
Further research showed that similar signs were a lot less money(go figure). After reading the info on this web-site about this company put me over the top or should i say out da door. I'm sorry to hear about your case and wish you well in the furture, and by the way THANKS.

David of Grand Sound in Denver, Colorado is telling a very biased version of the events surrounding the purchase of signs from my company, and I intend to set the record straight.
First off, I did approach David on March 3rd representing Signtronix. I have been an independent contractor for Signtronix for almost five years. I have numerous customers throughout the nation who have had phenomenal success using our sign products, including Bud's Muffler (Sante Fe & 10th St., Denver) who in one calendar year realized a 25% increase in business!
My goal that day was to create a partnership with a business owner on Broadway in an attempt to gain more business in the area. My company had given me the authorization to place a sign at our factory base prices (wholesale) in order to attract more business. We call this a showcase location, and if we get good results for our customers, these partnerships always lead to more business.
I introduced myself to David and told him about my project. He agreed to allow me to show him a sample of our outdoor lighted sign.
He admitted to me that he had invested approximately $2000 on an awning that had not done anything to attract new business. I explained that our signs incorporate three-dimensional graphics, and like a billboard is much more eye-catching, and therefore effective. I shared with him the results I had obtained for Bud's Muffler.
David shared with me that he was a new business, that his budget was limited, and that his current advertising was not working for him.
I showed him a sign solution that he felt would help his business, however, he did not like the design I created. He insisted on using his logo, although I explained that it was not effective in branding his businss as a recording studio. I explained that our pictorial graphics would work better to communicate more effectivly the nature of his business, and that according to research from independent universties throughout the nation and that of the SBA, signs with words only are only 10% effective in gaining the attention of the passing public.
David insisted that if he was going to get the new sign, it would have to be his logo. I explained that I would give his logo a shot, but if the signs did not help him to attract new customers, that it would be because of the design. I shared with him that a business that gets a new, eye-catching lighted sign in America will see a 20% average increase.
Although I was confident in my product, having worked in newspaper, radio, national magazine, and sign advertising sales, never in any of these media are the results ever guaranteed. Furthermore, there was no written guarantee regarding the results the sign would achieve for his business.
RMD signs did install the signs for David (we are manufacturers only). They had installed a few other of my customer's signs in the area as well. However, David did not pay them for their work. As of the last time I spoke to RMD, he still had not paid his bill, and they were extremely upset. They told me that they would no longer install signs for my customers.
Perhaps he has finally made good on his debt to RMD, perhaps not. I have not taken the time to verify.
David called me immediately about the sign panels. He said that they were unreadable. I was out of town on an extended work trip to Texas, and was unable to drive by to look. When I got back to Denver, I did drive by and he was right. The orange we used on the bottom of the sign (he and his employees liked my idea of using Denver Bronco colors to attract customers) was not enough contrast given the type style I chose.
I contacted my VP Tom Boren and we sent him new panels.
David's next call to me was to complain that the sign was not working. As I suspected, his logo, which was nothing more than geometric lines and words was simply not communicating effectively the nature of his business. He was upset.
I talked to David and reminded him that I had warned him that his logo would not be effective, and he admitted that I had indeed tried to disuade him from using it.
In an attempt to rectify the situation I went to my VP a second time and asked if I could redesign David two additional panels. These panels go for approximately $2000, and now we were on the third set. I told him in this case he would at least have to pick up the shipping. He complained and I made a deal with him: I would waive the freight if he would allow me to design the panels the way I was trained. He relented and I designed him two new panels.
When I followed up on the panels, he agreed that they were now bringing customers through the door of his business, but he didn't like them because they looked similar to a sign we had made for a computer shop at least a mile further up the street. Well, the only similarity was that the computer shop had a graphic of a pc with a CDROM behind it, and he had a graphic of a CD, tape cassette and musical notes (the computer shop grew their repair business tenfold using this sign).
Tom Boren, myself, and Signtronix have done everything in our power to make David happy. Unfortunately, he wanted us to refund his investment, and we were unwilling to this. I meet business owners every day who tell me about advertisng they tried (mostly radio and newspaper) that did not do anything to bring new customers through their doors. David admitted that after I redesigned the sign, it did in fact attract new customers.
I am proud to help business owners across our great country to build their businesses and realize their dreams. I am sorry that I couldn't make David happy. However, I feel we went above and beyond the call of duty to do so, and that we have no further responsibility to his business.
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Jamyes Ryan, District manager of Signtronix of Denver. Is there any way you can ask "Wild" Bill Childers of Signtronix why he pressured my mentally unstable wife into forging my signature even after I told him absolutely no?

Jaymes Ryan lied from the moment he walked through my door and he is lying still.
I spent about $1200.00 not $2000.00 on a beautiful and very functional awning that has drawn more interest then the sign he sold me and it doesn't even have my our phone number on it.
Jaymes did go on and on about Bud's muffler and it was the only example he had to offer that a sign he sold did anything. At least the graphics for Bud's Muffler make sense.
At the time I asked if we could incorporate our logo in the sign and his answer was that we needed two huge signs with our logo on them. So I went from the idea of our logo somewhere on the sign to giant logos. That was Jaymes Ryan's idea.
There was no written agreement that the sign would work but there was a promise and a firm handshake, which means absolutely nothing to a snake like Jaymes Ryan who is a true sale and bail kind of guy.
As for RMD they did install the sign and they did get paid. The reason they didn't get paid immediately was because they had to take the sign to their shop and custom fit brackets and mountings. They also had to change the angle brackets because they were set to stick out further then Denver code would allow. (So we lost viewing angle) The reason RMD doesn't want to deal with Jaymes Ryan and Signtronix is they are liars.
James said that everything needed to hang the sign was included. That was a lie. The angle of viewing that Jaymes Ryan said the sign would be hung at the time of sale was a lie or he really believed that RMD or any other sign company would take a chance of getting fined or worse if they went against Denver code and hung it the way he claimed it was supposed to be. Again RMD was paid with no complaints to me. They never said they were upset with me. They definitely made me aware of what a piece of junk sign I just bought. They would have done something a lot nicer at a fraction of the cost. When I told them what I was paying they all just looked at each other and then at me and I could tell they were looking at a sucker. So the thing about RMD not getting paid?..LIES.
The first sign actually got one call from some one who was walking under it. That is how close you had to be to read what we do. Even then it was hard to read. Jaymes Ryan never tried to dissuade me from using our logo he just said the sign is all logo or no logo.
Personally I think this is because he considered himself artistic when in reality he just looks through clip art and tries to find a good match. This is funny because he claims all his work is custom.
There were only two panels ever made, the first ones which couldn't be read by Jaymes Ryan's own admittance. Then a second set like he said ?I would waive the freight if he would allow me to design the panels the way I was trained. He relented and I designed him two new panels.? Wow. So now he replaced panels that made sense but couldn't be read with panels that make absolutely no sense and still can't be read. There was never a third set of panels.
Jaymes says ?When I followed up on the panels, he agreed that they were now bringing customers through the door of his business, but he didn't like them because they looked similar to a sign we had made for a computer shop at least a mile further up the street.?
The signs never brought in one customer and I told him they were doing nothing.
Jaymes Ryan just can't stop lying. The two calls I got from the sign were a person looking for an event center and another person who thought because of the graphics on the sign that we were a cake decorator. Maybe those are the customers Jaymes Ryan is thinking of.
Jaymes Ryan says ? Tom Boren, myself, and Signtronix have done everything in our power to make David happy. Unfortunately, he wanted us to refund his investment, and we were unwilling to this. I meet business owners every day who tell me about advertisng they tried (mostly radio and newspaper) that did not do anything to bring new customers through their doors. David admitted that after I redesigned the sign, it did in fact attract new customers.?
First off replacing bad signs with worse signs shows a huge lack of integrity. YThey were just trying to brush me off without any real thought into fixing the problem. I doubt the panels cost much to make and definitely not $2000.00 each. If they did, I believe someone would have put some thought into the new design. The signs are so bad when people walk by them and I am out in front they will ask me what we do. That's bad.
Again, I never told Jaymes Ryan that the new signs attracted new customers because they didn't. I think his ego is the problem on this part. His design looks like a 2 year old with clip art did them and they don't work. Get over it and stop lying.
Here are some e-mail quotes from Jaymes Ryan. These can be proven because I have them.
?Signtronix has already been paid for these signs; your agreement lies with Northern Leasing now. Please contact Northern at 1-800-683-5433 to discuss your options, if you are no longer interested in making your sign work.
I am currently on vacation, so my availability is limited.?
?You are entitled to your opinion. I hate the fact that the signs are not working for your business. However, I have attempted to explain to you why I believe they are not working, and I have gone above and beyond what I am obligated to do to remedy the situation. I am not "seriously worried" about anything these days, especially recuperating Signtronix' investment. However, as a conscientious worker, I don't want to send you new panels if they are going to go to waste.?
?Since you are not getting enough customers to make ends meet from other sources, did it occur to you that perhaps your services are simply not in high demand? Is it possible that your signs are getting seen by tons of people, but that no one is particularly interested? I have no way of knowing if a client's product or services are viable.?
Funny, my Yellow Book advertisement (which Jaymes Ryan suggested I 'get rid of') has gotten me 1000 times the phone calls that Jaymes' "specialized signs" have ever gotten me. No one is particularly interested? I don't think so.
I have also been in sales for many years. If I didn't know that I was doing the right thing for a customer, I wouldn't lie to them and push them into a decision that could potentially hurt them just because I wanted the sale. Only $$$$ on Jaymes Ryan's mind. Oh yeah if the signs were readable and made any sense maybe people would have called. With approximately 70,000 cars passing the sign every day (at least that's what Jaymes said) you think someone would call. I have often sat at the front window and looked at people who are stopped at the light as they look blankly and confused by Jaymes Ryan's special sign. Sad.

I work for a sign company and I would be interested to see a picture of these panels that cost $2000 for a set (of 2?). Based on the report, (if I read it correctly), the replacement panels were quoted at $2000, and I assume that is just for the graphics, (not the hardware, which was already installed). Please also note the size of the panels, if you can.

This report is getting a little ugly, I'll only add these few comments.
The price of the replacement sign faces sound fair. Lexan is extremely expensive and high quality material and should be very durable. Even if the sign were not "formed", they would probably be at least $600 each, depending on how they are made.
As far as using clip art for the sign, that's what sign-makers do. "Artists" create designs by drawing them or using their computer to draw them, and this type of creative service can be very expensive. (Though you could perhaps hire a budding artist from the local college to draw some original graphics for you).
I'm sorry you guys have had so much trouble with your deal. One thing I always do to aviod misunderstandings, is to email a JPEG proof to my clients and make them approve the artwork before printing. This is something that anyone who orders anything from a printer should require, and is a good way for the Sign Salesman to cover his you-know-what too.
Perhaps if David's sign looks too much like the Computer Store down the road, they can do a cross promotion with each other and benefit from it?
Anyway, finally something I can comment on!
Thanks for reading,

I really didn't want it to come to this, but after enduring David's perpetually ridiculous and slanderous lies regarding my conduct, and the integrity of my company, I believe everyone should know that he and his employess smoke marijuana constantly in their recording studio. I actually witnessed them smoking the day we wrote the contract, and I actually saw marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, and they actually offered me marijuana.
Feel free to believe the words of a drug abuser if you want people, but I come from a family that neither condones nor places any trust in drug users.
I have a witness that can corroborate the fact that he insisted on using his logo: my father. I employ my parents on a part-time basis to help them make ends meet.
My father was the first one who responded to David's complaints (as I stated previously, I was on vacation). I asked my father to remind David that he insisted on using his logo (which I initially attempted to demonstrate to him would be absolutely ineffective on the sign), and my father reported to me that David calmed down when he reminded him of this fact, and that David admitted that this was absolutely true. Furthermore, my father records all the conversations he has with my customers--this is a habit he picked up from his police officer brother.
I am tired of David's relentless attack on my character and I plan on immediately informing the Denver police of his illegal activities within his recording studio. David, now maybe you will see that there are consequences to lying and attempting to defame someone's character.
Again, for every negative comment someone can produce regarding my company, I not only see people who are unwilling to take responsibility for their own acitons, but I can also produce literally thousands of positive results.
Good luck and God bless.

P.S. Regarding the woman who wants to quote the cost of panels, she needs to know that:
1) The panels are lexan.
2) The panels are vacuum-formed to nearly half an inch.
3) The panels have a fully pocketed, 3D graphic (no other sign company on the planet does this).
4) The sign panels are hand-painted with acid-based Gripflex paint ($500/gallon for red).
5) The panels are pan-faced.
6) The panels have a clear coat that is UV inhibiting.
7) The panels are 4' x 8'. There are two of them. The exact quote on these panels is $1660. The freight from Torrance to Denver is approximately $200. Excuse me for rounding up...

Now that Jaymes Ryan has no leg to stand on he is resorting to false allegations against me. This is very sad and very far from professional.
I would love to hear any recordings he may have and I will wait ever so patiently for the police.
Not that I believe anything Jaymes Ryan says anyway, I do believe that there are laws against recording phone conversations with out acknowledging the fact to the party being recorded.
Oh and Jaymes Ryan came to the office with a women who left shortly after. Other wise he was by him self. His father was not there.
Also, my girlfriend, my mortgage broker, a client, and an employee were there through his entire presentation. And against there warnings to me that they thought he was shady I believed Jaymes Ryan's lies anyway. Stupid me 1000 times.
Not every one involved in the music industry is a drug abuser.
Once again Jaymes Ryan is a liar.
If what Jaymes Ryan is saying about me and my company was true then why would he have stayed there for hours and hours selling me a sign if he is so against marijuana? That doesn't make any sense. If it were true wouldn't he have left as soon as he saw the blatant drug abuse he is speaking of? Jaymes Ryan stop lying before it is too late. You will have to back up your lies with more lies and then one day you wont know what it means to tell the truth. This may already be true. I am not afraid of Jaymes Ryan's accusations because I am an honest man and he is a liar.
The only tool Jaymes Ryan has or knows how to use is the lie.
To the person who was interested it the panels. I doubt that they are 1/16 of an inch thick and they are very flimsy. If you are ever in Denver feel free to check them out your self. Or if you send me your e-mail I will take pictures and send them to you. (((ROR REDACTED E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR SECURITY PURPOSES)))
I think Signtronix should give Jaymes Ryan a drug test. I wonder what they would find.

It was not the cost of the signs that was in question. It is the fact that they are hard to read and that they make no sense.
You wouldn't have a clue what we did if you saw the signs.
I wasn't given a choice on the design. It was Jaymes Ryan's way or no way. I have an e-mail to prove that to.
Oh by the way now that I know how much the panels cost and looking at the hardware, also taking into consideration a reasonable gross profit margin I would say I was also over charged about $12,000.
Janice, is that how you would treat your customers?
What is the name of your sign company?
Cross promotion? You think this is funny?
Finally something you can comment on? Is this what you do?
Why are you even a part of this? Are you a friend of Jaymes Ryan or Signtronix?

Geesh, David. No, I don't think it's funny, I was making a suggestion. No, I don't treat my customers that way, as I said, I always make sure they are happy with thier design before I print it. Why am I a part of this? I was just offering some advice - to ask your printer to SEE a proof before they print for you. No, making comments is not what I do, that's why I said I could Finally contribute (because this is a subject I know about). I was only trying to be helpful. It won't happen again.

I had a salesman named "Wild" Bill Childers from Signatronix pressure my wife who is mentally unstable and under medication into forging my name even after I had told him absolutely no. "Wild" Bill Childers needed my credit and Northern Leasing Systems, Inc. may have turned me in to the credit bureaus and wrecked my credit after years of hard work of building it up.
As of now there are 141 entries filed. Can all 141 of us start calling Northern Leasing and hang up on them?
