I just discovered expensive charges on my Verizon phone bill entitled "dir asst chg" - a total of $7.14 for one minute! Supposedly, someone in my family dialed 10 15 15 800 for directory assistance, when they could have just dialed 411!
These charges are billed by a company named "OAN Services, Inc." 800-944-0171. Today, I was told - by a man at OAN with a thick foreign accent - that they are not the provider of the directory assistance service.
They are just a billing company. The directory assistance operators are in Las Vegas, and the company is in Florida. He said the name of the company is "Calling 10 15 15 800".(Someone else on this site says their name is "ILD".)He told me they also have another number - 10 15 15 xxx
(I didn't pay attention to the last 3 digits, sorry.)
He insisted that someone in my family used the service.
I am most certain they did not.He instructed me to instruct my family not to dial those numbers again,
as if we did it at all to begin with.
He said he removed the charges from my bill.
I asked him to request a block so that my family could not use these numbers again.He said he would place a block in my record.I don't know how much good that will do.
