    Corporate Advocacy Program
I signed up with U of Phoenix and got enrolled in their on-line AXIA program for Business.  Things seemed to be going well with school however, my personal life was blowing up in my face.  So, I requested a break, a pause in my education to get a few things settled so I could focus on class rather than the many crises I was dealing with.
My adviser and and various other necessary people OK'd my 28 leave of absence telling me that they would phone me at the end of three weeks to see how things were going and if I was ready to get back to my studies.  I had recently moved and forwarded mail had gotten lost for two weeks, so before I knew it, I was getting Delinquent from Class letters, 2 weeks late.  I called and email EVERYONE I had contact info for and some people that I tracked down through their communications page.  No one answered their calls, returned my calls OR returned any of my emails.  At the end of the "time off" period, I was finally able to contact someone who told me, "Sorry for the confusion, just pay what you owe (over $1400) and we can get you re-enrolled for next semester."  WHAT!?  This was not my mistake.  They didn't file the correct paperwork so I was considered delinquent from class.  I should have gotten this break down on paper and signed, but I made the mistake of trusting them.

Now, 4 years later, I've been trying to get a break down of what I owe and why for the past 4 years.  I've gotten nothing but the run-around each time being told, "it's in the mail!"  Then, most recently I was told I had to fax a request for information to them.  Several days later, my credit union called about the small auto loan I had applied for (I recently came out of a very bad situation and I am starting over, almost from scratch and desperately need transportation as my area does not have buses) and they told me that the University of Phoenix had charged off my account.  Charged off!!!  I've been calling and harassing these people, especially the past several months to get this issue sorted out and they CHARGE OFF my account at the end of April, leaving my credit in the toilet!  If I had the money, I'd hire an attorney ASAP and sue the pants off these people.  But then, I'm not sure I even have much of a case considering all I have is phone records and nothing else.

I will NEVER recommend that school to ANY one.  My credit is destroyed.  I can't get back into school or get even a small loan for a car which leaves me begging rides to and from the doctor to fix severe, repeated back/neck trauma from over the past 2 years. I'm just so angry I could spit.

There's a lawyer in the Raleigh, NC area named Chris Livingston who really helped me out when I got screwed in a similar situation. His fees were taken from the money he recovered for me. I don't know if he can handle this kind of situation but you really need to sue these people. Can they prove you enrolled in that term? I think not. Therefore, you shouldn't be liable for any tuition. I would pursue this vigorously.  And don't believe the reports you read on ROR about him. I seriously doubt they're true based on my experience.
