I've just read some of the disturbing reports of people who have attended ITT Technical Institute, and it is of the opinion of this author that these people should also learn how ITT can, and does, screw over its employees.
I was currently trying to find an adjunct-faculty position at any local college/university shortly after completing my Master's Degree. ITT-Tech was one such choice, and they called me attempting to recruit me to be a part-time instructor through their company.
I hadn't yet taught in a classroom setting, and was very anxious to do so. Even though the class was once a week for 3.5+ hours, I really wanted to teach in a college setting. Unfortunately, I had no idea as to the pain and hardship that I would endure during the quarter that I taught there.
Just showing up early for office hours was very boring, as no one even showed up to ask for help. I had to follow their rules, their syllabus, their curriculum, etc. It took 5-6 weeks till I received a paycheck for my services rendered, and the excuse was something along the lines of "we are trying but with your name, there is a problem". I also did not receive full computer access (including their online gradebook and email) until 3-4 weeks after I started.
It was also my only job at the time and I was receiving pressure from my father to take another horsecrap job (which I still have to this day). I also was forced to change my addendum to the syllabus several times due to complaints regarding how 'strict' it was. One such change was to change my policy on make-up quizzes from no make-ups to make-ups up to two weeks from the original date with a penalty attached.
There was even a week I had a major panic attack due to starting my new job, then traveling the hour drive just to get to ITT-Tech, seeing that I did not get a paycheck like I was supposed to, then being 'attacked' by one of the computer specialists because he believed that I was taking things out on him. The exact words, I believe, were "I have done everything I can for you, so don't take things out on me!" just before going to the bathroom.
Then to make things worse, I was so distraught that I had to head home and get out of there. This was followed by calls from the Dean attempting me to come back and teach class against my will since they are supposedly not allowed to cancel a class. For some time, he would not accept no for an answer.
I also was supposed to call every student who did not attend class on that week and ask why they didn't come, plus 'spoon-feed' them as to what they missed. At the end of the course, I literally had to come in on an extra day just for one student to take his final exam. I also was being observed three times during that quarter, and the first time, the Associate Dean gave me a hard time saying that I was doing things wrong and was supposedly too 'strict'.
The students (no disrespect to those who have tried hard at such an institution) made things harder. It wasn't who they were or what they did; it was the fact that I had to hand-walk them through the course and baby them all the way. I started with 21 registered students, 16 of whom showed up on the first day, and 5 who finished the course, with one student failing. This student I had to personally call and let him know he failed.
I say these things not to blame anyone for my misfortune, but to deter those who would consider teaching at such an 'institution'. I also hope to deter those who would consider attending such an institution as a student. It is a sever insult to me as a professor to be forced to treat adults like children, and it is a sever insult to the students that they should be treated like children, most of whom are adults that are older than myself.
I leave with this warning. Avoid ITT-Tech like the plague. God Bless.

My boyfriend was interested in one of their programs and we visited the school. I have attended college. When I finally got a price out of ITT for the degree it was a lot more than a traditional college. I told them they were a total RIP OFF and we left. My ex hubby got his degree in Electrnics Technology at public tech school in Louisiana and when all was said and done he paid no more and a couple of grand for tuition and then his books and supplies. All these for profit schools should be shut down and let community college workforce programs take over. They are run by the state, accredited, and most 4 year colleges will accept the credit, or states should (Like Louisiana, the only thing that state ever did that was good) open public technical schools.
The quicker people stop attending these FAKE schools the better off everyone will be. I must say that I don't know of a lot of companies that hire these students and if they do its for 10.00 an hour dead end jobs.

I'm not sure what you were expecting when you accepted that position. Were you aware that ITT Tech is a community college, and not a four year institution? It sounds as though you weren't prepared to educate a group of adults who likely haven't attended a class in years, and I find it hard to believe that you were unaware of this aspect of the student body population when you signed on.
In order to maintain accreditation, a strict syllabus is necessary in order to meet all the standard requirements. Did you expect complete freedom your first year on the job? You as well mention that this was your only job at the time, yet complain that you we're forced to work a solitary extra day so that one of your students could take a test, and even went home early once after being yelled at by another employee, a completely inappropriate and irresponsible reaction which lacked any consideration for the students you had abandoned.
It sounds as if your expectations were far too high, and that you didn't respect the backgrounds of the students you were educating. I hope in the future you are more prepared for the positions you accept.

I am not sure how you can make the claim ITT-Technical Institute is not a real School. ITT offers degrees from the Associate through the Masters Level. Not to mention they are Nationally Accredited through the ACCSCT.
I am a proud Alumni and current ITT student. I earned my Associate of Science Degree in Computer Drafting and Design (CDD) and will be receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management (CM) this fall. Many of my Instructors hold Masters Degree's as well as years of industry experience. The knowledge I gained at ITT was not only theory based but many hours of hands on experience as well.
As a CDD student I studied Mechanical, Architectural as well as Civil Drafting. I also had the opportunity to learn many different software used in the Drafting and Design, Engineering and Architectural Industry, such as AutoCAD, Revit Architecture, AutoCAD Inventor, Autodesk 3DS Max (which is a 3D modeling software). We were also taught Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, and Acrobat). I also had the opportunity to join the student chapter of the American Design Drafting Association. Many of my fellow graduates have rewarding jobs utilizing there skills in the architectural, engineering and even the fire protection industry.
I utilized my Construction Management skills to gain a job with a large construction firm in there project management and estimating department. This allows me to take my skills from the class room directly into the industry. I understand you may feel the price is high but look at any private university many cost close to $27,000 dollars a year for that’s $108,000 for a four year degree.
So yes a community college may be cheaper but in my opinion after attending a community college and then attending ITT I feel the quality of the education I received is well worth the money. Also to state that nobody will hire a person from ITT unless it is a $10 an hour dead end job to me is just plain ignorance.
