In February, 2008, I signed up with Active Singles LLC (d.b.a Elite Personal Search), for the services of personal matchmaking.

I was charged a contract amount of $ 6,000 (I rounded up) for a term period of one and a half years for Introduction Services. I made a hefty deposit and today, they have pocketed $1,600 in recurring payments.

Before joining, Elite Personal Search assured me that they had an extensive database of members, and that it was very easy to match a professional candidate like me for a life partner. I hold advanced university qualifications, and I am a professional. In a one hour meeting with so called relationship consultant Paige Grant, she assured me that their company had the ability to match every candidate successfully, and that one of her personal friends and colleague had also found a match from them. She added that it can also take a relatively shorter time as well.

However, since I joined the service, I have not been introduced to a compatible candidate, based on my criteria for a preferred match in my Supplemental Characteristics and Preferences Profile, yet I had been assured that I was an easy client to match. In March, 2008, I received an email with a picture attachment from my personal matchmaker about a candidate from another county that they had in mind for me for a personal meeting. I replied to the effect that I would consider meeting the proposed match in person, and that I should be updated on the arrangements Elite Personal Service was making for me to meet my match. I had also been assured upon initial email communication about a candidate, the company would already have made ample research and obtained significant information about compatibility. Within one day, I received a reply from matchmaker Laura Wasserman that she was waiting to hear back from the match, then she would contact me. I did not get any further updates from the matchmaker, so when it came towards the end of April with no communication, I initiated phone calls to the company. I was told several times that the matchmaker was not in the office. After about four more attempted calls on consecutive days, I finally got the matchmaker. She said that she was going to call me. I asked about the developments that followed after her email message and the supposed compatible match. She replied that the match had decided to ‘pass’ the proposed meeting. I asked as to why I was not informed of this before, and the matchmaker said that they were trying to match me.

Shortly after talking with the matchmaker, I received an email about a match from another location that they deemed to be compatible with me. The proposed match was not compatible with my requirements, as I had stated them in my “Supplemental Characteristics and Preferences Profile.” He was ‘divorced’, he had a child, he was ten years older, and his interests were not in any way related to mine. This was very contradictory to my requirements. When I asked matchmaker Laura Wasserman about this apparent contradiction, she replied that I could possibly relax my criteria, as they thought he would be a suitable candidate. I objected to this proposal, as it was a breach of the Supplemental Characteristics and Preferences Profile that I had stated.

By the time of writing this complaint, I have not heard any further communication from the company. In the meantime, I decided to do more research about their credibility and business practices, in particular, their confidence approach, plus the marketing claim that they have arranged over thousands of successful introductions (Ref. www.elitepersonalsearch.com) . They continue to claim to have an extensive membership database of pre-screened members.

I have now discovered that Elite Personal Search is a scam with bad business practices, and that they use misleading marketing and false information to overcharge clients for substandard/and or no services. Having been a member for several months with no face-to-face introduction of a compatible candidate, I have come to the conclusion that I was misled and cheated of my hard earned money and time. In the Program Guidelines” which they supplied to me upon joining, there was a statement, I quote "Your first introduction will be within four-six weeks after your background check has been reviewed. Subsequent introductions will average every four to six weeks in length unless you have asked for qualifications that may be difficult to find."

Initially, I decided to join because the company had assured me that it I was an easy candidate to match.

From my findings, and from the exorbitant fees the company charged me as a contract amount, I have been scammed. I understand that Elite Personal Search has an F rating with the BBB, and several other clients have filed similar complaints against the company as a scam.
