This company is crap. I went there two weeks ago and everything about it is shady. This is definitely a part of - http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/067/RipOff0067444.htm these type of stories. I went to this address two weeks ago, but now they have changed their address, phone number and their website design.
Polaris, Inc
325 Broadway Ste 203
New York, NY 10007

Current Address:
240 W 3rd St

I went in.. I ringed the door and some skinny tall white guy shook my hand. The office was tiny with four small room and a tiny hall way. There was a receptionist/admin girl sitting and was calling candidates without any break. They pretty much called anyone that applied or any resume they came across. There were either 3 or 4 people that were doing the interviews. Anyways I had to fill in a application which had a question with 5 verbs and I had to pick which represents me the best and which represents me the least. I shook hands with this fat guy and we go for in to his room. He had a busted IBM laptop and a printer that was picked out of garbage. so he tells me "My name, if you don't mind, I like taking a lot of notes and it will take a bit longer. Please excuse me." Then we go through my resume and he then tells me its not a sales job. This is a management type role. We want Business Partners. I asked him how many people they were looking for and he was like 5 people. 5 Business partners left us and we want to fill thier spots asap. We want you to learn this business for about 4 mos and then we will train you on how to run your own business, like payroll etc. So he asked me what type of job are you looking for and I said "I want to do something dynamic, something that will not have me sit behind the desk. I like talking to people" (something anybody would say for this type of job), and he goes, you would like to go out and meet people in the street. I said Yes. Then he goes, We work for Quill which is an affiliate of Staples. They were acquired by staples on a all stock deal in 1998 or 99. We are the marketing arm for them. Then I said, who are we going to be selling this stuff to, like the corner stores or bodegas?. He goes, No No. Corner stores or Bodegas don't need office supplies. We service doctor's offices, Accountants and those types of people who will need our help.
Well this is a 3 round process. The second round is where we take you on a field trip with a leader who will show you the business. He/she will observe you. At lunch, we will talk about the corporate structure and salary etc. At the end of the day, we will make the decision on whether to hire you or not. and I was like ok. Then he said, I will discuss you and others I see with my colleagues and vice versa. Then we will decide and will let you know by 1 - 2 pm. I left knowing that I will get a call and I am not going to respond to them. Surely they called on 1.45 pm.
Some chick called a left me a message that I was selected for 2nd round and want me to call her to get more details. I never called her back. Anyways, I am pretty smart that I figured their s**t immediately. I feel sorry for the people that go through their crap and suffer in the end. Now with the different site, they are looking for new entry level marketing individuals.

Ok, given that it is legitimate, meaning the company/scammers do exist. but that was not what was being discussed here. the subject of the conversation is that the company is a predator to those who needed jobs. they are a bunch of scum bags... oh excuse me. a bunch of scam-bags

OMG! I am sooo glad that I read this posting!! I went into Polaris Inc. for a job interview 2 days ago and I knew something was shady but I wasn't too sure! First, they changed their address and location! Here is their following location:
690 8th Avenue, 5th Floor
New York, NY 10036
(btw 43rd and 44th ave) Next to McDonalds
(212)227-8632
About 2 Days ago, I had received a call and email from Jeanie Lau. She mentions that she the HR of the company and would love for me to come in and schedule an interview. I agreed and went in the following day. I walked into this shady building and rode the elevator to the 5th floor. I walked inside the office and realized how small it was. It looks like an apartment building with 3 separate rooms and a huge waiting area. A man new Frasier greeted me and gave me a few paper works to fill out. I looked at the paper work and filled in my basic info such as name, address and etc. What I thought was weird was that I had to enclose my date of birth and social security number. The first thing that came across my mind was, "this is illegal to write or ask at any job interview". I left my social security out. After I completed the form, Antonwine greeted me and brought me into a office room and conducted the interview. He seems nice and explain how the company ran. He mentioned that they are conducting interviews today and if I get a call from 1pm-2pm I would have to come in for a 2nd interview. (keep in my that my interview time was 12pm). As everyone mentioned, the 2nd interview, I have to "shadow" another worker and see what they do and the 2nd interview is from 9:30am to 6pm. I tried asking Antonwine about the starting salary and benefits, but he was beating around the bushes . Fine.
After my interview, I received a call right away (within an hr) Jeanie called me and told me that they were happy with my performance and wants to conduct a 2nd interview with me right away. I told her ok and I would love to come in next week. (Note: I am not going anymore after finding out their scam) Before we hung up on each other, she gave me an attitude asking me for my SOCIAL SECURITY because I left it on the paper work. In confusion, I asked, "Why would you need my social security if I am NOT hired? I do not feel comfortable giving it out". At this point I do feel a little shady about the company. Companies do not ask for your SSN unless you are hired. Jeanie gave me a rude tone of voice and said, "Its for the client, if I don't have your SSN, you CANNOT go onto you 2nd interview". Stupid me, I gave in and told her my SSN! Now for sure, I know it's a freaking scam! This is why I googled them and found out about this. Now my SSN is out and I hope they don't attempt to steal my identity or do some credit or criminal background check without my consent! I even asked her what is was for and if it was for a criminal background check but she said its for the client!!!
Please don't fall into the same trap as I did! I'm going to graduate from college within a month and all I want is a decent office job with a good salary and benefits. And now I got HUSTLED! Welcome to the real world!

I am so happy that I came across your report and many others here on ripoffreport.com. As a recent college grad I posted my resume on many job websites and I'm currently getting a lot of scam emails from "companies" or "businesses" that are offering me position that I know I'm NOT qualify for or they are not my area of interest. After reading the emails over and over again, I just didn't like the way they sound and red flags started to go up. Not sure what came over me, but I decided to do a google search on these "companies/businesses" and BAM! I found reports about them.
Thanks YOU so much for writing this one, you have save me a great amount of trouble -effort and time. Your report was a great find.
