I took a flight from LA to Miami about three weeks ago. NWA lost my luggage on the return flight. I field a claim, but now they say that I didn't have luggage at all! What can I do?

You show them the receipt for the luggage you checked in. What kind of question is that? Unless you don't have it, in which case I would ask, Where did it go?
Airlines will not take your receipt, except to make a copy of it, then they hand it back to you because you will need it to reclaim your property.

Richard,
First of all when you filed the claim, they should have given you a file reference number. That is all you need.
Second (in response to the last rebuttal) Some airlines DO keep your claim check (such as AirTran) but give you a receipt in it's place when you file the claim.
My suggestion is to call the reservations line and ask to be put in touch wiht the central baggage office.
