Im new to the Gray area and decided as a hobby for myself and my family to start raising chickens, and other animals. I was informed from a friend about bradley wayside auction in gray, ga. I have been going to this auction for around 2 months every saturday night purchasing different things. when me and my kids went to the auction last saturday night (02/12/05) a pair of parakeets came through and the auctioneer qouted that they would be sold as 1. the bid reached $17.00 and i won. after the auction i paid for the birds and chickens that i had won bids on.
I returned to the auction the following weekend of (02/19/05) and a guy named Curtis Barfield came up to me and said he thought he would let me know that my purchase for the parakeets the previous weekend had costed him $17.00!! I didnt understand what he was trying to say... i was thinking at this point do i go look for my reciept? or what? He said that every animal is sold by the head and he had signs posted. at that time i told him that i understood that but, these parakeets were auctioned off as 1 by the auctioneer... as he walked away during the auction in front of everyone he says if i dont believe him i could go ask his wife in the office!!!
I was very shocked and upset at this time. This guy had just accused me of trying to cheat him out of money in front of everyone!!! As he walked away myself and my kids went to the office. Curtis's wife confirmed that i still owed 17.00...
my question to her was who in their right mind would pay $34.00 for 2 parakeets???? especially at an auction where people go for bargains??? (NOT ME!!)
I think that she may have wanted to agree.. but, she didnt. At that time I paid her $17.00 more for the parakeets and advised her that she could erase my auction #1315 from her records. Needless to say me or my family will not be returning to the Bradley Wayside auction in gray, ga.
This incident was very embarassing to me and my family.
I feel that this guy owes us an apology..(and a refund)
Im sure that i could have not paid the other $17.00 and continued on participating in the auction... but, im not that kind of person....
I sure hope that the $17.00 that i over-paid will replace all possible future $$$$ that i would have spent at the Bradley Wayside Auction in Gray, ga.

You were very civil. You owned nothing more. You were the high bidder and there was no reserve. So anything that was supposely wrong with the sale was the auction house's problem, not yours. Sure smells like a little bit of a scam between to auction house and cozy sellers to me.

Being new to the Gray area and new to the auction , it is apparent that Mr Frank bid when he did not know what was going on. I am a regular consumer at the Bradley Wayside auction and there are signs that explain that when a cage of animals is auctioned, it is sold by the head. In other words, if there are two parakeets, the bid is times two. Mr Frank in this case even admits to seeing the signs that explain this. The auctioneer even says this numerous times during the auction to try to avoid this from happening. I am sorry Mr. Frank had a bad experience, but for him to blame the auction house is wrong. This was his mistake and no other.
