On Jan 12th 2010 I drove almost 4 hours one way to meet the owners of Luv- A - Bull ( English Bulldog breeders). They did not seem to want to meet me at there home and that was my first mistake. They said they would meet me half way there since it was such a long drive for me. My gut said No, NO , No but the pic of the puppy was soo stinking cute that my heart said for me just to step out of my comfort zone for once and do it. I was raised with the breed and I knew darn good and well that a responsible breeder would show you there kennel and there other dogs.
However, I went with my heart and paid them 1000.00 bucks for a 16 week old female English bulldog. I was greeted by a tall slender man who said his name was " Wes" and a heavier set women who said her name was " Mandy". I sat down with them and breifly went over the health guarantee. I noticed on the car ride home that our new puppy had a horrific smell to her and it was unusal however I went on.I followed the health guarantee that stated to take the puppy within 72 hrs to a licensed Vet and have her exaimed.
Her first examination came back fine. She was healthy and cleared to go. We took her back around a month later to have her next set of shots administred and she was diagnosed with a Grade 1 luxating patella of the left stifile joint. I was in complete shock and asked what this was and was told it was a herditary issue. I contacted the breeders about the situation and nothing. They just ignored the phone calls and email.
Hmmm, this is when the red flags really went up. However, I did tell them that I did not want a replacement puppy at that time because we loved her. We just wanted them to be aware that there female had passed a herditary issue on to our puppy since they were listing these pups on Kijiji.com for 1800.00 originally . At that last vet visit my bulldog was not able to obtain her set of shots because she had 5-6 small puss filled blisters on her belly and was put on anti biotics. ( This was maybe a month after recieveing her) . Approximently 3-5 days maybe at the most a week later my bulldog began to loose hair on her head. My Vet thought that it was an allergy to either the medicine or something in her new enviroment or food or something. I FINALLY found a Vet that had seen this before after the puppy suffered for almost 2 months and he done a skin scrapping on her and it came back positive for demodectic mange.
I had NO IDEA what this was. I totally freaked out for I have another bulldog at home. I thought maybe she could get it . I was informed by the Vet that demodectic mange is herditary and passed only from mother to pup. At this point in time the Vet told me to have my female spayed DO NOT BREED HER. I contacted the breeder and surprise no response. The best part is they know that they are selling puppys with this because upon further examination of this wonderful " health guarantee" it states that " There are certain disorders that may be caused by enviromental factors for example: allergies, thyroid dysfunction, demodectic mange, and other autoimmune disorders that are not covered in this guarantee." Really thyroid issues and mange is considered an enviromental issue??
They sure were quick to answer the phone and emails when I wanted to buy a puppy from them. Now that there is an issue they are un contactable. Amazing since they advertise with the internet and they both have Facebook accounts. They do not have a website that I know of . However , look them up on Facebook and pass the word along to help stop these people from breeding. This breed has enough health issues the way it is - ridiculous issues as mange mites that can be stopped by spaying the dog should not be an issue in this breed!! These people are BACK YARD HILL JACK BREEDERS DO not buy a puppy from them!!!
