My husband, John Coker, and I bought a GE Washer from a local dealer, Stewart's Appliance, and were urged by that dealer to get an extended warranty of five years for the price of $159.95, which we did. The washer is not working and needs to be repaired. This is well within the extended warranty period. I have called the service number on the contract (800-930-3986) over twenty times, day and evening, but always get a busy signal. Once my husband called during non-business hours and there was an answer saying to call back during business hours, but there was no option to leave a message. I have written a letter, recently, on January 9, 2012, to which I have not yet received a reply.

Show up and ask for the owner of Stewart's Appliance. Ask him for the representative from AIG who handles the service plans. They have that info in the store. Call right then and there. Tell the owner that you are going to the Attorney General to resolve this if a tech isn't out to your home within 24 hours. The only reason the store sells service plans is for the 50-60% gross margin. You would have had you appliance repaired already if you solicited authorized repair centers through your own research. Again, get someone else involved - AG, Division of Consumer Affairs or even the local Action News Consumer Reporter. You are way too passive here.
