Culligan Water Conditioning has ripped off consumers by overcharging for their products. They're requiring almost $100 more than their advertised price. Penalty for renting first? Waukesha Wisconsin

Rented water softner from Mermaid Water Conditioning 6 years ago from sales person who said that rental payments would go towards purchase of unit. Mermaid was purchased by Culligan.

Time went by and I recently decided to call Culligan because based upon 6 years of rental payments, I should own the unit. The manager preceeded to say that the contract said only some of the payments would apply and I would owe an additional $375 to buy the unit. Based upon the contract, the original purchase price was $795. 6 years of rental payments plus the $375 would equal $1500! I asked what was the value of my rental payments and the manager told me it was $500. So, based upon his figures of $500 plus $375 I would pay $875 when the original price was $795. Each time I called they had a different dollar amount which I would owe.

In my mind this is similar to the class action law suit that Rent-A-Center lost for overcharging customers for products they could buy on their own for much less money.
