Have a new GE refrig/freezer with the drawwer on the bottom. The ice maker continues to make ic, even when the basket is full, and dumps ice cubes on the floor. The freezer drawer will not close until we remove the ice cubes from the floor (using a long handled "grabber"). GE sent a technician who said the ice maker needed to be replaced, which he did, but it did not correct the problem. The local dealer said he could do nothing and suggested I contact GE customer Service. They told me to turn off the ice maker when the basket was full and turn it on when I needed more ice. This involves removing frozen food from a shelf in front of the ice maker, removing the shelf and turning off the unit - then reverse the process - a very ridiculous solution. I wrote to the president of GE and he had an associate call me and tell me to turn off the ice maker.

This is a poorly designed ice maker and certainly not what one would expect from a company that has been producing ice makers for decades. GE will do nothing about it - they won't stand behind their product.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

You should clearly and concisely explain the problem, document it, video it and complain to GE.

AUTHOR: Consumerist.com - NASHVILLE (U.S.A.)

Using a clear and concise complaint format (search the interent for the format or check consumeristdotcom for a format) document the problem, what has been done, and what you want to be done to fix it.

Make sure you send this as a letter format to the actual people at GE who can make things happen.

Also see consumerist for how to make an EECB- an Executive Email Carpet Bomb which is when you figure out GE executives email addresses and send a blanket email to any of their names you can find. You already had the president of GE but probably need more VPs and managers of the refrigeration products devision.

Even video the problem describing it and post it to youtube etc. (be nice while you describe it and state what you would like to be done to solve it). Make sure you email this video link to other competitor brands and CC: GE on it.

Keep being very nice and say that you like GE products and would love to buy more but this is making it difficult for you to justify buying more.
