I was placed on a calling list through a referral from some friends of mine for a free in home demonstration of the Hyla NST system. I was suckered in through an emotional appeal to "help" my friends by viewing the demonstration so they could possibly have their Hyla paid off. I was told I had also won a free vacation. I agreed and had the demonstration in my house on 5/17/2006.

At the time, I didn't realize the high pressure tactics used to coerce me into buying their $2200.00 vacuum. I also didn’t receive my vacation package which turned out not to be free at all. The vacation package was through a company in Orlando, Florida named Certs, Incorporated.

The device was first demonstrated as an air purifier when in reality it is an over priced water trap vacuum that can work as an air freshener; similar to a Rainbow. I was told the system would purify my air and remove allergens 0.3µm and smaller, better than a HEPA. I was so convinced about this product I even worked for their company for a few days. But after some research and the apparent staining of the foam diffuser on the exhaust of this rattletrap, I became aware the claims made of the Hyla were overstated, exaggerated or false. Water trap vacuums can only trap allergens 3µm and bigger and are inefficient too. A decimal point makes all the difference.

These vacuums also do not meet HEPA certification by any means. I contacted reputable specialists and manufactures such as Allercare, Nilfisk Advance, and the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic. They had nothing but admonition of water trap vacuums and them being marketed as an air purification system. They recommended against these devices especially for those who are sufferers of allergies and/or asthma because the machine can actually stir up more dust by re-emitting it as a fine mist.

During the demonstration, they used a fragrance that contains triethylene glycol, ethylene glycol, alcohol, and fragrance which is basically dilute antifreeze. I was also informed by these specialists that volatile chemicals are one of the worst things for an allergy or asthma patient. The financing was extremely dubious. I was told the interest was eaten by the financing company.

This turned out to be totally false and deceptive. The payment was $59.54 for 4 years. The financing agreement didnt contain a truth-in-lending statement. I had to get online to figure out the interest was around 9.6%. The financing was done through another dubious company, Castle Credit Corporation. I was allowed to return this machine at no cost to me, but I was treated coldly when I did. I terminated my independent dealer agreement with them. I even got an angry phone call from the salesman about it.

The sole purpose for this complaint is even though I got my money back, other people are being duped into buying a deceptively marketed product with a scandalous markup of my estimation in excess of 700%. My advice, be wary of Greeks bearing gifts and never purchase anything from a door to door salesman.
