This company led us to believe they were delivering one thing, then delivered something completely different - and agreed to do it without notifying the proper authorities. When they did not deliver we refused to pay them. They attempted to blackmail us, then added random charges to bump the price high enough to file a lien on our house. The lien was not filed following proper legal processes and we were not notified in a legal manner. This was not an accident on their part. Beware this company - stay away at all costs!!

I am the managing member of Eleven Engineering & Design, LLC of Portland, Oregon. One of our owner/members was professionally associated with the wife of the individual who filed the complaint. This professional organization is a group of young professionals who collaborate to generate business leads for their individual businesses.
In a number of professional meetings, our owner made it clear to other members of the organization that we provide structural engineering and design services but are not construction contractors. The complainant contacted us regarding a master bathroom remodel. We met with the owner, provided a written proposal to the wife of the complainant and proceeded to spend time on structural engineering and design. We provided design drawings to the owner and billed for our services at a rate that was below the owners' budget. In fact, after some objection over the cost of services, we reduced our fee several hundred dollars. It is important to note that the entire proposal was for less than $1,000 worth of engineering services.
Numerous emails regarding the services went back and forth between the owners and our company. It is inconceivable that the owners did not realize that they were dealing with a structural engineering firm and not a remodeling contractor.
After several billing cycles with no response from the owners, we notified them we were going to file a lien against their property pursuant to Oregon law. We still did not hear from the owners and proceeded to file the lien. The notice of intent to file the lien is the "blackmail" referred to by the complainant. The lien was filed. Rather than contact us to settle the dispute, the owners elected to file a complaint with RipOff.com.
For some reason, the owners thought that they were dealing with a construction contractor (our owner/member), who was going to perform construction services for them outside of his position with our company. We are still unsure how this misunderstanding came about. However, we are in the process of attempting to negotiate an equitable settlement with the owner, to include our removal of the legitimate lien against the property.
The unfortunate aspect of this entire situation is that we may end up in a lawsuit over civil libel as a result of the homeowners' election of this remedy to voice their dissatisfaction.

I am the author of the original report. While everything I originally said is true, Eleven Engineering has stepped up and taken steps to make it right. This all stemmed from a misunderstanding about what services were to be provided.
