Today I received a letter from this collection agency. It was addressed to my husband who has been deployed to Iraq for the last 6 months, with 9 monthe remaining there. Well it was a letter stating we owed 185.00 because of a debt they got from DISH Network. I cancelled DISH 2 weeks after we got it and this was over a year ago. I paid the early termination fee, etc.
I called AC & A to ask them about this.

The first person I talked to told me to call DISH and take it up with them. I did, and DISH told me that my balance was negative and to call the collection people back and let them know.

I did that and the next person I talked to was very rude, very unprofessional and would NOT give me any information about what I needed to do to dispute this. Told me it couldnt be. Well I called back to talk to a supervisor, Mr Phillips..He was just as rude, wouldnt let me get a word in before he said he was marking this as a refusal to pay and hung up on me.

I was lost on what to do, so I called the Attorney Generals office in Texas and was advised how to file a complaint with them. I did a search online for this company and found out they were the same with everyone who has dealt with them. I'm actually at a loss on what to do. This was over a year ago and I havent received ONE letter or phone call regarding this until today.

My husband is in Iraq, fighting a war, worrying about his credit report bcecause of this scam company. If anyone has any suggestions, Id appreciate it.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

DISH Network Gave Them The Account, DISH Network Needs To Clear It UP!

AUTHOR: S.n. - Bucyrus (U.S.A.)

You didn't say if you filed with the AG's office against just the collection agency or not but I would suggest that you send complaints to the AG's office in the state where the collection agency is located, the AG's office where DISH Network's corporate office is located and send copies of the complaints to your AG's office, the collection agency office (do not put your signature on their copy -- print it in block letters) and to DISH Network's corporate office (again, don't sign it, print your name).

You should have access to legal counsel through the military and you want to make sure they are aware of this as well (I can bet you that your husband isn't the only soldier this has happened to.).

Call DISH Network back and tell them you need IN WRITING that the account has been taken care of. Check the laws in your state and record the conversation without their knowledge if that is legal or tell them the minute they get on the phone that you are recording the call.

If DISH Network sent this to collections, they need to be the ones to handle it but just in case they can't get off of their corporate backsides and do it, a push from all of the above AG's offices should do the trick.

Good luck.

And tell your hubby I said THANK YOU!

#2 Consumer Comment

Thank you!

I did not even think of going to the JAG office so I will definitely do that tomorrow and hopefully they can help me. If they cant, its only bcos this is a civilian issue however, since the Army "owns" my husband, maybe they can. Thanks again for the suggestion :)
