I had a an account with apple iTunes store for months where I could down load songs for my ipod shuffle. To buy a song you need a users name and pass word.

My last purchase where 2 songs in July, and my ipod was full. August 30, 2009 someone charged 4 times on my account, and my bank stopped the 5th charge.
The total was $166.34.

The bank and I spent a total 3 and half hours on the phone over a 2 day period, and nobody was authorized to refund my money. When the charges went through
my account was in the hole for 500.00 dollars.

apple iTunes still has not resolved the issue, and I'm stuck with a mess!
It is a shame that a gift of an ipod shuffle from my mother turn into a disaster.

I want all the consumers to beware that reputable company apple iTunes or apple products are not secure! The customer service are not authorized to anything accept close out an account, and say how sorry they are.

Don't ever purchase an apple ipod because your bank or credit card are not secure. I want to save everyone from a mess that I have to deal with.

Liars and scammers.

I have also been ripped off by the itunes company when I had questioned a charge that was in the processing stages on my bank account.  I had filed a report with itunes website towards the begaining of june 011 and the rep that responded to me stated that i needed to change my log in information and the money would be put back into my account.

Since the payment was still in processing and wouldn't show on my bank statement until everything had cleared, it only showed that the money was returned to my account on the 24th of june and then retaken out of my account on the same day. I again sent in  a report off their webpage and had gotten in contact with another rep named Colin.

The rep had mentioned to me that the charges were from another game I had downloaded and  that some games have hidden charges, sorry don't buy that. I sent him a couple of emails back and then he brought up the game that was charged to my account which I didn't authorize to purchase.

Through all the emails sent back and forth from this rep and another rep I never had gotten my money back and refuse to do business with a company that takes money from their consumers accounts without permission.  Even after sending  the last rep I had email the previous emails and a copy of my bank statement which only showed the transaction of them refunding my money and taking it out they still refuse to refund me my money. I will be reporting them to the BBB and selling my Ipod.

Your posting lists you as being the "Owner of the company, i.e. Apple).  In your post you state you worked for the fraud department of a bank for many years.  I question your post as I do NOT believe for a moment YOU are Steve Jobs!  I have done extensive biographical research on Jobs and nowhere do I find Steve Jobs EVER having worked for "many" years in some bank's fraud department!

He dropped out of Reed College in 1972 after only one semester, though he did continue to "audit" some college courses.  None of his employment history I reviewed confirms your aforementioned statement.

How it works

First off when there there is fraudulent activity on a credit/debit card, it is up to the company that approved the transaction to take action if there is fraud on the card that they issued.

Secondly, iTunes does have a billing department but they are a small department.  The reason they are a small department is because Apple limits the number of eyes that can see your personal information that you use on your account.  Trust me.  This is for YOUR safety and NOT for the companies benefit.  Because they are so small, the way for a consumer to contact them is through their web contact form found at http://www.apple.com/support/itunes .  Using the email system allows them to work with multiple cases at once so that the response time is lower.

When you call your bank to report fraud, normally you start by talking to customer service.  What I have found in my experience is that they will tell you to contact the company it happened with 99% of the time.  This is great but if someone used your card with one company, they will more than likely use it with another.  This is why you need to ask for the fraud department of your bank.  From there they can disable the card preventing any other activity that you did not authorize.

Regardless....

Truth and honesty and just downright integrity need to prevail. I too have had my card charged for unauthorized iTunes charges. Regardless of whose responsibility it is to refund the money, a business such as iTunes should have a Billing Customer Service Dept. with LIVE people you can talk to to tell you how to go about fixing an issue like this. I am warning everyone I know about this and to be very aware of purchasing from iTunes. People need to know that if they have a billing problem, they will NOT be helped by iTunes.

It's not iTunes

It is up to your bank to refund the charges, not iTunes. Your credit card information IS secure on iTunes (Apple is a huge company and they take privacy very seriously) but your password is not. Did you know that most people use incredibly easy to guess passwords and never change them? There are websites that provide account names and possible passwords for various merchants for purposes of abusing someone else's credit card. I'm 99% sure that your password is to blame, not iTunes.

If your bank wouldn't refund the charges you should find a new bank. I worked in a fraud department for a large corporation for a long time and dealt with many banks for this kind of situation. Banks will do a lot to get out of it but ultimately it is THEIR responsibility, not the merchant's. Review your cardholder agreements to determined your liability for unauthorized activity.
