Tech 100 Auto Repair business card says that it is fair, honest and reliable. They are not any of these.
On March 30, I told my car to Tech 100 and got an intake manifold replaced. Two weeks later the engine went. I had my car towed to Tech 100. I did not want to replace the engine if the transmission was bad. He said that the transmission looked good on three occassions. When I got my car back, the transmission was shifting hard. It had never done that before.
I took it back into him and he said there were no error codes and that the transmision was fine. I took it to a Buick Regal dealership and Ammaco transmission/Cottman and they said the transmission was bad and that I needed to spend 1,000.00 to replace it. I asked Ron if he checked the transmission, he said "no." A few days later he changed his story and said that the transmission was in good working conditoin and that he actually checked the transmission.
This was a false statement. He made us fix our engine, knowing that our transmission was bad. He drove our car for 200 miles without authorization and he said that no codes ran. I told him that the codes came up. He said that they do not. When I got the car back, I went back to the Cottman Transmission and they showed me the code.
I would never go to this mechanic. He is dishonest and is awful customer service. He gives your car back to you in a worse shape. I never had a problem with the car until I took it to Ron at Tech 100. He is awful. I spent $3000.00 in the last month. I think he is horrible. Do not go to him, at all. You will regret it.

It is extremely difficult to diagnose a transmission problem when you can't drive the vehicle because the engine has a rod knock. Anna's car needed an engine because of the rod knock, and that is what I fixed. I am not psychic and do not have a crystal ball. It's my word against hers. The facts are her car needed an engine and that is what I replaced. I do not give a guarantee on something that I have no control over. Her car drove out of the shop when the engine was replaced and shifted fine. I have been in business since 2003 and this is the first complaint I have had in 6 years. Check the Better Business Bureau.

I was shocked and disappointed to see this complaint as a top hit on a Google search. I was actually searching for Tech 100's phone number and address to pass on to a friend as I had a completely opposite experience with Ron than what Anna had. And let it be known, Ron is not a friend and I had never heard of him or his repair shop before taking my vehicle to his shop.
On November 17th 2011 I was trying to get my 1999 Saturn SL2 to pass emissions and inspection but Jiffy Lube would not even begin because my vehicle was smoking. I left Jiffy Lube and made the drive to Tech 100 and talked to Ron about having my engine worked on. On the way I was fully prepared to spend up to $1000 to have it repaired believing it was probably piston rings. After a short conversation Ron explained all Saturn SL2's are prone to burning oil but not bad enough they will not pass the state safety and emissions test. He went out to look and listen to my vehicle while it was running and was convinced it was just a simple matter of it sitting for 3 weeks without running at all and hadn't burned out all the crud on my short drive to Jiffy Lube by my residence. He also hooked up the OBD computer reader and it return all systems were ready with no error codes.
To make a long story short, Ron could easily have told me it needed work and charged me his rate of $1500 it would take to repair the engine and I would not have questioned it all. In all, I spent a total of ZERO dollars! He even took the time to stop by the emissions and inspection station after closing up his shop to check up on my situation.
I would, will, and already have recommend Ron at Tech 100 Auto Repair!

I was searching for the Tech 100 address when I saw the Ripoff Report as the first item which came up on my search. I had to write a rebuttal to clear the record because Ron Cobbley does not deserve the negative publicity. We have had nothing but positive experiences with Ron at Tech 100. He is so helpful that we feel like we have our own personal auto mechanic. Ron is dependable, honest, and extremely helpful. His bids are always very competitive, and always lower than the big auto shops. If you want personal, quality service, I highly recommend Tech 100. We have been a customer for several years and have no plans to take our business elsewhere.

Ron helped me with my 15 passenger van - he was professional and got the job done quickly and the price tag couldn't be beat anywhere else! As a single mom, I was worried about being taken advantage of, but was referred to Ron and assured that I could trust him. I was not disappointed!! He got right to the point and didn't prescribe any unnecessary repairs. I have recommended him to people I know - I won't go anywhere else from now on. You won't find a more honest guy for your automotive needs!

I was very surprised to read the negative comment regarding Ron and Tech 100. My experience has been totally positive and I wouldn't take my vehicles anywhere else! My son-in-law introduced me to the auto shop when he first came into the family about six years ago. My three children, my sister and her family, and some of my co=workers are all loyal customers. Through the years, I have found Ron and his employees at Tech 100 to be honest, reliable, and reasonably priced. One time I went in thinking I needed to replace my brakes. They checked them and found that there had been some dirt that was making them squeak. They sent me on my way without charge. That is just one example, but I could name many more. I feel lucky that I found Ron and his shop. I know that I will get the best treatment and most honest deal. I will continue to recommend Tech 100 to friends and neighbors!

Ron Cobbley has been working on my 1997 Ford Ranger for almost six years. I was a walk in customer when I moved to Layton. He has been up front and honest with me regarding any repairs. I always check his price quotes for parts and labor and his are always lower than the big name auto repair places.
I have never had a problem with a repair he has completed and he gets the work done in the time frame he committs to. I work in Salt Lake and take the Frontrunner daily. I drive in occasionally. I have no plans on purchasing a new vehicle and feel comfortable knowing I have a mechanic I can trust to keep my Ford running strong. Anna from Logan should know that I have no regrets.

I have been a loyal customer of Ron's for years. He runs the best, friendliest, and most cost effective repair shop in Layton.
In the past, I had taken my car to 6 different repair shops in Layton, all with mixed results. I never really trusted the workers at those shops - they would always seem to find at least 3 other problems with my car, in addition to the reason I brought them the car in the first place. Needless to say, I was feeling very frustrated.
On a whim, I brought my car to Ron's shop. It is fairly small, tucked away behind the Main Street Jiffy Lube near Khols. I was willing to try most anything. What a pleasant surprise. The shop is completely local, and owned by Ron Cobbley, who does the majority of the repairs. This is important to know: most shops overcharge on either parts or service to cover overinflated managerial costs. Ron has effectively cut out the middleman, making his prices UN-FREAKING-BEATABLE. Believe me, I am a cheapskate, and I ALWAYS call at least 5 shops to see if anyone can beat his prices. I should just give up on that, but I still do it for some reason. No one can beat his prices - plain and simple.
In addition, the quality of the repairs is always top-notch, and Ron always guarantees his repairs. If something goes wrong with a recent repair, he will go out of his way to rectify the situation at little or no cost.
And (if that weren't enough) if Ron does not have the means to perform a repair or service, he will do his best to find you the best deal and/or shop to accommodate you.
As far as the complaint that I am responding to, I don't personally know the situation, but I can say that it seems to be a streak of bad luck. Having done business with Ron for a little more than 5 years, I always refer my friends, family, and other acquaintances to Tech 100 with 100% confidence. Ever taken your car to a shop you can completely trust? Try it with Tech 100 sometime; it's pretty refreshing.
