Bought a 2002 Chevy Venture from Drive Time in Chandler in September 2007. Within 3 months we started having electrical problems. 6 months later we attempted to change the brakes only to find out that the Tierods were completly shot and dangerous. By Feb 2009 after replacing the waterpump and thermostat the engine blew. I contacted Drive Time regarding the issue and I thought all would be fine. After being on the phone for over a week between Drive Time customer service and the Repair Dept we set up a time to pay our half. Once we went in to the Mesa Drive Time location our check would not be excepted (Never told we could not pay with check) so we debited the amount from our checking account. Once I had the receipt I was back on the phone with Drive Time regarding deferment of payments(should of been written up same day I called and advised payment was being made). It took a week to get the deferment since the Claims dept would not release the repair contract without the account paid up. Took yet another week to actually get the engine to the repair shop and the vehicle is still at the shop to this day. Drive Time customer service helped in no way to be a buffer between me and the Repair dept. Although my account is noted from both departments no one knew what was going on or how to help me. I was ping ponged from dept to dept. I had to call daily for 3 weeks straight in order for anything to be done. We signed a repair contract and paid 1180.00 (our half of the repairs) and was promised our vehicle within a week. Now being a household of 5 with me only working it was a struggle to come up with that money, but we did in June 2009. Once payment was given we were promised a deferment of payments. It is now closing in on the end of July and we still do not have our vehicle. We found out a week ago that there is a micsellanous claim in the amount of 500.00 that we are now responsible for and were never told that we would need to pay more for repairs. Since it has taken more than a month and a half we now have no money for the final repairs which is 271 (our half of 500), the repayment of the half Drive Time paid for the repairs 295.00 and although we got the deferment we still have to pay the full payment of 453.00 by the 28th of July. Are you kidding me? What good is a deferment if I still have to pay for repairs and still have no vehicle and expected to pay everything else? What did Drive Time do other then make it impossible for us to maintain our agreement with them? When you get the vehicle you are told that it has gone through the inspection and no issues should arrise, also you get only 1 month warranty once you drive off with your vehicle and of course they fix only basics that will get the vehile through that month. This company rips people off with promises of working with you in case the vehicle has issues, but to be realistic they are just sucking people out of money for vehicles that should of been junked instead of resold at a higher price you could get for a new vehicle. They take advantage of people with poor credit since they finance there own vehicles. As you can see many people have had similar issues if not the same with this company and something should be done about it. All my savings is gone due to this and still I have nothing to show for my good faith and payment that I made. We have no choice at this point but to surrender the vehicle. I am all for a class action against this company. I feel everyone that has had this issue or similar should be compensated for any money paid for down payment of a lemon and any repair fees without the threat of damaging peoples credit further. Balances for the loans should be void. This is an example of a corporation that makes money on false promises and less than satisfactory vehicles.
