LIPTON TOYOTA BAIT AND SWITCH LIARS RIPOFF FT LAUDERDALE Florida

Negotiated to purchase a new Scion online, sent them deposit. Arrived and gave them check from finance company, eLoan, while I took car for test drive. When I returned they told me "we don't accept financing from eLoan" and offers me their own financing at a substantially higher interest rate.
I walked out the door and filed a bait-and-switch report w/ the FL attorney-general. I checked with eLoan: Lipton Toyota regularly accepts financing from eLoan and accepted one loan within the past 30 days. They obviously knew I was driving from relatively far away and thought they could pull a bait-and-switch.
I'll probably sue them for lost time and any difference in price I end up paying for the car they contractually promised to sell me. However, if you are in the market for a car I strongly suggest avoiding Lipton Toyota.

Due to the way that Automotive dealerships are structured and regulated, there is absolutely no incentive for the salesperson or dealership to have lied to you. There must have been something wrong with your e-loan, or you met up with an unethical finance manager at the dealership. Call the dealership's General Manager to discover what the real issue was with your loan.

Saying that auto dealers do not have in-house financing is analagous Clinton saying "I did not have sex with that woman." I don't know how Toyota defines "in-house financing" but EVERY Toyota dealer -- and every other auto dealer -- will arrange for financing as (relatively) seamless part of the buying experience. They do not do this out of charity. I don't know how the relationship is legally set-up but I can guarantee that these people work together regularly and that conflicts-of-interest are likely unavoidable.
My eLoan paperwork was fine and still is: I've double-checked with the company. This was simply a bait-and-switch, plain and simple. Like I said Lipton accepted an identical packet within the prior 30-days. I drove far and dress down so they thought they could get away with a scam.
The man who attempted to close the bait-and-switch -- whose name is Mike and who had a vague resemblence to Tony Soprano -- represented himself as the General Manager.
At this point Lipton Toyota is a write-off. I will not do business with them again, though I may choose to sue them: I haven't decided. I
