I have had a very bad experience at North Texas Nissan in Denton Texas. The first time, I bought an XTERRA,which I still have and am pleased

However; when you get in the dealership, they take your keys from you and refuse to give them back until they realize they have pushed you to the edge. My husband had to ask for his keys twice nicely, then the third time, he had to get really ugly.

The second time, I was shopping for a car that got better gas mileage. I went in and the salesperson told me to sit down and wait. When he came back, he told me he had taken the liberty to run a credit check on me.

I was furious! I do not think that these practices are ethical, or possibly even legal. I will never go back!

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Donna, WHY would you give them YOUR keys?

AUTHOR: Steve - Bradenton (U.S.A.)

And, they need your authorization AND your SS# to pull your credit!

Where did they gey your SS# if you did not give it to them?

You need to remain firmly in control when dealing with car salespeople.

I would never give anyone my keys without good cause. And if someone did have possession of them and I wanted them back, I would ask ONE time only.

Then I would proceed to help the jerk get the dental work he/she always wanted.

I have zero tolerance for strong arm sales tactics.

#2 Individual Responds

I am learning

AUTHOR: Donna - Argyle (U.S.A.)

When you go in , they ask for your keys so they can get an appraisal on your car. I really don't know why I gave them my keys because I was not trading in my car. I think they got the SS# from a previous time that I was in there. I had bought my XTERRA in there under a different management about 2 years prior to that. I guess they pulled my old records and got it off of them. I am usually a nice person, I am too trusting, but I am learning to be "not so nice". I wonder if there is something I could do about them doing a search without permission? I tried to file a complaint with the Parent Company Autonation, but there is no where on their site for complaints.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

Donna, try this

AUTHOR: Steve - Bradenton (U.S.A.)

Send a letter of complaint to each major credit bureau stating that one of thier subscribers pulled your credit without your permission. State that you are going to sue, and file an FTC complaint.

Send the letters via certified mail/return reciept requested.

Then file an FTC complaint online.

Then file a complaint against the dealers license.

There are a lot of ways to make them pay.

You had to have given them more information for them to pull your credit. Never volunteer anything until you are ready to buy.

You had to have told them you bought a car there before. Or something. Either way, those applications from prior sales are privacy act protected and are to have controlled access.

Salesman do not fit that category. What they did was illegal, and in violation of your privacy act rights.

#4 Consumer Comment

You would not believe this place. When you walk in a salesman comes over, takes your name and asks for your keys.

AUTHOR: Donna - Argyle (U.S.A.)

He then says he will be right back. There is a room in view of the showroom floor where all of the salesman go in and stand in front of this counter that sits high above them ( this is where their manager(s) sit I guess. I kid you not, it looks like the NY Stock Exchange floor. It is packed with salesmen fighting to be next in line at the counter. Oh and when someone buys a car, some guy comes over the PA and rings a bell and announces the name of the person. It reminded me of those time share things you go to where the manager comes over the PA and announces thier newest family member in the time share family. Thanks for the advice. I think I will look into it. I am not the first that has dealt with this place. While I was there, a man started screaming at a salesman for holding his keys and not letting him go.
