I wanted to warn every potential subaru buyer of the warranty hell i have been through. I purchased my WRX(standard trans sedan) new, and at about 10k miles, I began hearing a terrible whining sound from the drivetrain. Turned out to be bearings in the driveshaft, and at first, Subaru was refusing to repair vehicle, and was even attemtping to charge me for the diagnosis and etc(despite me having purchased their extended warranty and so on). Eventually they repaired my car free of charge, but not without quite a bit of hassel.

Then my car died at 28k miles for no reason. I had just left my house when the car lost all power and died. Subaru refused to repair it citing the K&N air filter voided my warranty for the mass air flow sensor. Eventually i got K&N to pay Subaru.

Now, my first gear is getting extremely hard to go into. Reverse is also a pain. I have never raced my car, and have taken rather good care of it. Subaru is now citing that I have raced my car, and that their transmissions don;t fail unless people are racing their cars. It seems like, this is going to be hell. In order to see what is wrong, they want to charge me about 500 to take out and inspect transmission. It'll cost a few grand to replace, but again, they seem to simply be stating that I raced the car, therefore they are under no duty.

What is the point of a drivetrain warranty if it is not upheld?

My advice to all you would be subaru buyers(and alos, current owners--take off ALL mods, no matter how unrelated they may be(like suspension whne having engine issues)) is DON'T buy a subaru--it seems I am not the only one...lots of subaru forums have similiar complaints.
