Hello,

After reading so many problems with other car lots, I felt compelled to write about my experience with Tom Wood Toyota. I bought a 98 Camry near Memorial day. I had already gone to my bank for financing so I felt confident that I would not get screwed over. Well I learned the hard way.

Since the banks were not open on that Monday because of the holiday, the financing manager told me to write a check for the amount to make sure that I would bring back the car if my financing fell through. I felt this made sense, so I wrote a check. At the bottom I wrote this is to never be cashed. I took the contract to my bank the day they opened. The loan officer look at the contract and stated Tom Wood can't do that. They had two different prices down. One for the actual car and they did not give me hardly any trade amount for my 95 Camry.

To wind this up, the bank said this is very close to fraudulent and we are not going to finance this car and to take it back and they will help me find a different car. I took the car back to Tom Wood and they said that they will not except it, and they were going to cash the check. The bank notified them that the funds were not available for this check, to just take the car back. The financing guy called the bank manager a B@$%h and hung up on her.

The bank let me use their lawyer to make them take back their car but Tom Wood still refused the car. Tom Wood sent my old car to auction with out me having financing for the new car. I called Toyota Company to let them know what was going on. Toyota Motor corp financed me.

The end result was I backed down because I believed their threats. I now have a huge monthly payment. I was also told by my bank, that do to so many problems with Tom wood that there Credit Union will not finance any more cars for them.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Tammy, They encouraged you to commit fraud and you think that was a good place to do business?

AUTHOR: Jim - Orlando (U.S.A.)

Tammy...

I just remember telling someone that most people get into trouble with car dealers because they allow it and your case is a prime example.

Why on earth did the bank person need to tell you what was on the contract? Why didn't you read it YOURSELF before you signed it? Two different prices on the contract? Did you even knnow what you were signing?

Why Tammy, did you knowingly write a bad check? Thats FRAUD! They encouraged you to commit fraud and you think that was a good place to do business?

The BEST defense to avoiding fraud and deception in the car business is to use your FEET. If any dealer encourages you to write a bad check or lie on a credit application, its obvious you're dealing with pond scum and they will commit CRIMINAL FRAUD with you.

Secondly, when you get papers to sign, READ THEM!
If need be, take them home and have a trusted person read them for you. If the dealer won't let you do that...hello!...what does that tell you?

Looking for problems

AUTHOR: Stephen - Carmel (U.S.A.)

This consumer stated she wanted to obtain her own financing. The dealership allowed her to take the new car off their lot. Then, the bank (credit union) told her the deal she made wasn't a good one. So she wanted to back out. How would you feel if this woman had committed to buying your house, therefore, you took it off the market, then someone told her that you were asking too much for your home, so she decided to back out ...? She claims there were two different prices on the contract. What contract? She didn't sign for bank financing. If she is speaking of the purhase agreement (most likely) there is only one line for purchase price. How can there be two prices? There is always another perspective.

I was warned and then I learned for myself........

AUTHOR: Indyone - Indianapolis (U.S.A.)

A friend of mine always warned me to avoid Tom Wood as he/they were crooked. Well.... in 2005 I was pricing a Ford Escape that was going to be purchase through the Ford "Z plan" as my late father was a retiree. I went to the Tom Wood Ford at 96th and Keystone as it was close. I was given a price quote on a specific Escape, but they refused to give me the VIN number with the print-out. Smelling a rip-off, I went to Burd Ford (then on 38th Street) and had them quote the exact same vehicle. Since we didn't have the VIN number from Wood's quote the salesman, the finance guy, and I were very sure to verify that the vehicle as identically equipped and that the pre-discount sticker price was the same. It WAS!! But guess what happened when they had the system subtract the employee discount??? Yep.... the Burd quote was almost $1,000 cheaper than the Wood quote!!!!

The Burd finance guy kept saying over and over how all Ford dealerships should be exactly the same price when dealing with a "Z plan" quote. He went on to say that he wouldn't even know how to get into the system to make a modification to alter the price even if he wanted to.

Needless to say I bought the Escape from Burd Ford and like my friend, warn others about Tom Wood.
