A couple weeks ago I dropped my 01 Honda Civic off to be inspected. The car is in excellent condition, runs great and was expecting a smooth report. Well they had called me to return to the place so that I could get my wheel locks out for them. When I arrived the mechanic said he thinks that it is going to need a new strut and thats what the clicking sound is I hear when I drive. I asked what clicking sound? He seemed a little toungue tied and said he will check it out when he gets back from lunch. So I go home, I get a phone call from the customer service attendant saying that my car will not pass inspection without new front brake pads, new rotors and a new front left caliper. Well I assumed the brakes might be kinda low and the rotors were the originals so I did not have a problem with it. As for the caliper I had no idea what it was but I assumed that the mechanics know what they are talking about, even though the car had no problems at all. It drove great, stopped good, sounded smooth. The price they told me for the caliper was $350. Later that evening I was talking to a friend of mine I havent seen in a while and he was telling me about his familys repair shop. After hearing that, I told him about my situation and he told me that it is not uncommon for mechanics to use that part as a reason to sell services and more then lilley there was nothing wrong with it. IHe said if there is you will usually feel something wrong with the car when you are trying to stop. Not only that, I have been unable to find calipers anywhere that cost anything close to $350. I can't even find them for as high as half that price. After my incident I had told a neighbor about what had happened and he said that same location had pulled the inside gash scam on him 3 times before he got wise to what was going on. They were looking for an excuse to sell new H3 tires to him. This place is ripping off inicent people to make a buck.
