I have the same problem with a positive terminal post corroding and the post falling out thereby leaking acid onto the battery rack. The car was purchased at Munday Chevrolet and a new battery was in the car.

Munday refused to honor the 6-year warranty and pro-rate the battery since I had to purchase a replacement from another source. They stated the warranty was not in force because GM does not give a warranty to the dealership and that I did not have a warranty on the battery when I purchased the vehicle. The vehicle was purchased in July of 2001. A 1999 Monte Carlo and the battery was new. So battery is just 2 years in service.
