I have a 2004 Ford Explorer. About a year ago when I hit 50,000 miles my heater started giving me problems along with some electrical issues. At first the heater started making a "clicking" noise when switched from coll to heat, but eventually turn the air hot. Then last year it stopped switching over. You had AC but NOTHING else!! I took the vehicle to a mechanic to have him look at it and he said it was "very common" issues with the 04 Ford Explorer. So, I took it to a Ford dealership and had them take a look. The cost to fix would be between $700 and $1500!! The part only cost $75. I started doing research on the internet on how to fix it. There were 100's of complaints dealing with the SAME EXACT ISSUE!! I have had no heat in my explorer in over a year. I have had to take my daughter to school in freezing weather with no heat. I just want Ford to fix the issue. In this economy we do not have that kind of money laying around to fix something that is 100% Ford's fault.

Common failures are common in all vehicle's sold in the world. Your Ford could have had the common transmission failure one or any number of other common failures. What it comes down to is Ford warrantied you car for its warranty period and probably would have "good will" a repair this for a brief period after. By then abuse, misadventure and neglect become such a large part of your vehicle's life that it is impossible to pinpoint a cause. By the way unusual clicking noises should be checked before they cost you between 7 and 15 technician hours to fix it.
