General Motors Corporation Faulty Intake Manifold Gasket false promises abused & mistreated false promises Detroit Michigan

My 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, with 43,000 miles on it, and just over the warranty, was leaking coolant from the intake manifold gasket. I purchased the vehicle new. The low coolant light had been coming on and when I took the car to the Service Dept. of Miskinis Motors, Bridgewater, MA, the dealership where I purchased the car, for an oil change, I asked that they check the coolant. I was told that the intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced and the job would cost $865.00 (including the oil change and coolant flush). The reason being, that the job was very "labor intensive".

I later asked another mechanic at a local garage for an estimate and was told it would be $460.00 (I did not need the coolant flush or most of the parts/labor the dealer was trying to sell).

The dealers should not ripoff their coustomers either, but I feel GM should have issued a recall for this problem and should reimburse their customers for this repair work if it was not covered under warranty.
