This vehicle has only 3200 miles, before purchasing you should consider the following email sent to gmcac.com:
Ok, thank you for responding, to my sarcastic anger, the real matter is the new 2010 cobalt xfe I purchased no a/c unit, is now to my knowledge unable to be equipped with a genuine gm a/c kit, (not available) this is appalling consider the billions of the vehicles, the representative of GMCAC treated me as victim of circumstance, and as if on a witness stand in a court of law, what he didn't know was I had just been on jury duty within the last week, yes, attorney's can be proactive to help or be slime balls protecting the bad guy, as you can guess my perception of where is this representative sets in my mind, I just wanted a new car with new warranty at an affordable price this is hard to find in our current american market, to prove the point I gladly accept manual windows, manual seat adjustments manual transmission, I agreed to take the car after going thru finance without even test driving it , as I trusted this long time chevrolet dealer, honestly, I was at a loss for words when the car had been brought up from the ok to wash and on final delivery, got thru the onstar call and then as ready to drive off, I was then advised "Oh by the way you know this car has no a/c!" yes I am repeating my story, you see my selling dealer keeps telling me they are looking into a resolution, but reality I am the one making all the calls, and on top of this a long time competing chevrolet dealer BROWN&BROWN Chevrolet has heard my concern has called me numerous times to try and help, yet they are not the ones who sold the vehicle, this is much appreciated, yet the only they can offer is to me another car and I have to come up with a substantial down due to the fact I have a product not many be desire especially in the state of AZ where months we have over 100 degree weather! Just to set the background I worked for years assisting General Motors Customers thru Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac Roadside Services at EDS Corporation formerly at 10210 S 50th Plc Phoenix, AZ, also my family in Iowa years ago owned and sold Chevrolet vehicles, I know what it takes to care, and think outside the box when there is difficult situation presented.

Sincerely A concerned consumer (Original letter listed my name)

Where is the RipOff?

AUTHOR: Robert - Irvine (U.S.A.)

GMAC financed your car they didn't sell it to you.  Any complaint you have about the car needs to be taken up with the dealer.  However, that will probably not go anywhere as it seems like a case of Buyer's Remorse.

At no time do you indicate that they said it came with A/C.  You stated it had manual everything, so it was probably a "base" model with zero options.  Although it is interesting that they put On-Star on it, I guess that can make them additional income for that service so they do it.  You didn't even test drive it, "willing" to do that has nothing to do with trust.  What if you didn't like the way it drove, what if you really didn't like the manual transmission, what if you found any number of other things you didn't like?  The dealer is not going to be driving it for years to come..you are.

The dealer(?) offered you another car.  But have to come up with more money for this car with more options(A/C).  A/C is not free and not knowing the exact specs on the next car up.  If it is a higher model with additional options you are going to have to pay the difference.

just wanted a new car with new warranty at an affordable price this is hard to find in our current american market, to prove the point I gladly accept manual windows, manual seat adjustments manual transmission ,

- Well what is affordable to one person is not affordable to others.  There are many people who can not "afford" a new car.  You were willing to take a base model, where you probably could have done just as good or a bit better by looking at a car that is 1-2 years old where the original owner took the "hit" for the new car depreciation.

I am curious about one thing, exactly what resolution are you seeking from them?

Who does this?

AUTHOR: Flynrider - Phoenix (USA)

"I agreed to take the car after going thru finance without even test driving it , as I trusted this long time chevrolet dealer, honestly,"

Who buys a brand new car without test driving it, or apparently even looking at it?  You trusted the dealer to do what?  Read your mind?   From your post, it seems that you were looking for a cheap base model car.   That's exactly what you got.

You're wasting your time complaining to GMAC.  All they did was lend you the money to buy your dream car.

Few choices...

AUTHOR: Ronny g - North hollywood (USA)

Honestly, if you drove that car off the lot knowing it did not have AC, you now are the proud owner of a car that has no AC, no ones fault but your own. If there was any chance to get out of this..it was the day you purchased the car. Although if taken for your word they did not inform you it had no A/C until you were ready to drive off...the point is you did drive off knowing it had no A/C..why on earth did you do that?

Option 1 is to sell the vehicle to someone in a colder climate who does not require AC, but you will take a litle hit since it is now a used car.

Option 2 is to come up with cash and trade it in for another car, this time buy one with A/C.

Option 3 is see if anyone makes an aftermarket A/C system that will work on that vehicle. It will cost something of course but will increase the resale value and you will have A/C. Apparently A/C is not standard on this vehicle so as stated you have to pay for the option, or refuse to take the car. Unfortunately for you..you took the car.

And in response to Roberts comment about the Onstar...OnStar is standard on nearly all new GM retail vehicles in the United States and Canada.

"Auto Air Plus"

They make a system for your car. It will set you back a bit over a grand for the unit..then requires installation. But, it is possible to add AC to that car. Thought you would like to know.

Considering the base level model which I guess you have, the XFE retails around $14,990. The next trim level up which adds AC is the LS which has a base price of $15,670. So for 680 dollars more you could have had AC as that is the only difference when you go up to the LS model. Surprised the dealer did not inform you of this in AZ..but hey, live and learn.

I understand you were informed according to the report that it is unable to be equipped with a genuine GM AC kit. This is probably because of cost and possibly availability issues since it is a 2010. The AC equipped vehicle probably has a larger radiator, dual fans, a different HVAC control panel etc...with parts and labor if it were even possible or feasible, would be astronomical if going with an all GM factory system on your trim level Cobalt.

So get rid of it, live without AC, or go aftermarket. I do not think GMAC or the dealer can or will do anything for you at this point other then having you trade it in and take a hit.

You state in the report that it is "appalling" considering the billions of vehicles..but in reality, they make this car in a base model without AC...the one you have..and offer a trim level higher which then adds AC. So it is not appalling that they won't add AC to the model that does not come with it, but it is strange that you took the car off the lot knowing it had no AC and then expect them to add it to the car later.
